I've yet to try the trails there, and I was thinking about giving it a shot Wednesday afternoon. Question is, where is the best place to park and drop in?

If you mean from the North side on 1604, between NW Military Highway and Bitters, I park at Blattman Elementary School. There are a lot of nice trails down in there.

Thanks for the spot Max. Hopefully I'll get out there tomorrow and check it out. I've heard great things about Salado Creek. Hell, they named a beer after it so it's gotta be good.
Hmmm, I think I'll pass on the contusions and broken wrists, at least for now.
Thanks for the info Max. I checked it out this afternoon. It's a nice ride with plenty of trails and variety. I rode both sides of the creek above Huebner. The east side was cool, but man there are a ton of rocks and it seemed like I was always going the wrong direction for them. I did find the wrecked Olds Cutlass up there. Speaking of which, how the hell did it get down there? I ended up riding down to Blanco and back. Once I hit Salado's concrete monster (Salado Highway) I just stayed on the trails that ran parallel.
Overall a nice ride and one that I'll definitely check out again.
Whoops, I use my screen capture utility, snagit, to automatically ftp my screen snapshots to my webspace. In this instance I failed to rename the image and it was over written at a latter time. That is a snapshot of the power saver utility on my system.

Thought i saw a Bogeyman hiding in the woods!![]()
Anybody ever had issues parking at the school during the day on weekdays? Last thing I need is for some cranky elementary teacher to call the cops on some dude with a bicycle in the parking lot wearing stretchy pants!![]()

Bogeyman can answer that. The jobless trail building riding B@#&%^d is always out there having a great time by himself.

Well no one hasseled me. My sincere thanks to whomever has been involved in building that trail network. I rode East all the way to Blanco Rd. Came back and then explored the other side of 1604. HOLY CRAP! That was some great riding. I know I couldn't have found it all, but what I did was shit-eating-grin fun. There's just a few rocks out there.

Bear in mind that north of 1604 is private property so use your discretion about posting gps/maps online.
I missed the school yesterday because of some road work in that area. So, rather than turning around at Bitters and then turning around again I just parked at the strip mall on the SW corner of Bitters (has a Lenny's Sub Shop). From there it was only a two minute ride back down to hit the trails. Coming from that direction there's actually an entrance up there, so you don't have to go all the way to the school or even cross over Salado.
I didn't make beyond 1604. It'll be on my list for next time though.
Max, what kind of GPS and software do you have that does maps like that? My wife has a Garmin Forunner 305 for running, but I've never tried it for biking.
