Salado Blanco / Huebner Loop Complete

For those regularly riding Salado, we've been working on a loop trail for the park section (Blanco/Huebner). That is now complete. The last section by the Huebner trailhead was finished today with the help of Randy, Shawn and JuanGringo. The loop is best done counterclockwise. The Blanco end starts near the paved pathway bridge. At this end there is a trail on either side of the creek. The Huebner end is a short distance from the paved trailhead on the right. Both trails on this end start from the same place. STORM is paying to install trail markers in the near future.

Unfortunately the original trail is under water right now - no loop. Fortunately, we built the new stuff to stay out of the creekbed so we'd have a useable end-to-end trail even if the creek has standing water.

We need to go back and re-work a few sections but overall it's a good ride and a good warmup for the really good stuff north of Huebner.

Enjoy, and thanks everyone for working on this. Alan

    Wednesday ride

Tour is a good idea though I wish we could ride "the loop".

There's plans afoot for a regular Wednesday after work ride starting this week. Meet at the Blanco Road trailhead parking lot and ready to ride at 5:40. Divide into groups based on what folks want to do. Then we'll pick up riders along the trail as we head north - those who bike in or come in at the Huebner side. Should have 1.5 hours to ride (growing to 2+ hours as the days get longer). Need to be out of the park section by dark. The park police have told me they plan to be strict with the dusk to dawn park closed rules. Have not yet heard if official trail patrollers will get an exception on this - Hope so, nice recruiting benefit. Alan

    OK Thursday

We are set for Wednesday this week but I'll check with everyone about changing to Thursday - OK with me. Randy spins on Thursday and was looking to avoid a double up that day. Alan

I checked the trail from the cement path yesterday and saw a lot of standing water, especially just south of Huebner Bridge. A fishing pole might be optional? This might be your results:

Often....I find myself asking myself what I have learned from the journey....We are lucky to be here, on this beautiful planet. We are lucky to have the short amount of time that we are granted. And we are lucky that our beautiful planet hasn't killed us (yet).
