    Save Government Canyon

The SA River Authority will be presenting a plan to reduce flooding on Leon Creek that involves placing a retention dam in Government Canyon. A 2008 study determined that the best way to control flooding is to dam flood waters on tributaries to creeks with major flooding problems. I believe an agreement permits this at Government Canyon for the purposes of flood control and aquifer recharge. Many of us think this will be detrimental to the canyon. Just go look behind any number of these flood retention dams around the city and you'll see the results - not good if you are into natural areas for recreation.

SARA is presenting their study and recommendations at Government Canyon this Saturday (3/ 21) at 11:00. We want as many people as possible at this briefing to ask questions and provide input.

Mountain bikers have always been at the front of helping develop and maintain natural recreation venues around the city. Please attend. Alan

Hey guys I'm new to the forums here. I've been riding for about 8 months and I consider GC my "home" trails. My girlfriend and I have cut our teeth (and arms and legs) on the trails there and continue to ride it on a consistent basis. GC is a great place not only for mountain bikers but for hikers and families as well. I won't be able to make it Saturday as I'll be heading out of town at the time of the meeting, but I just wanted to voice my support to prevent this from happening. Fight the fight, enjoy the trails. I'll see ya'll out there sometime soon!

I've always said that the one thing Gubmin Canyon needed was a water feature. With over 8K acres of land, this might be a great thing.

Saw the banner dropping my son @ O'Conner. What is I.E.C.?
Do you want answers? I want the truth! You can't handle the truth!

...I'm not going to put you into a woodchipper. The rhetoric on this board is overblown. You're not a child killer or a mercenary.

Can we get past this please? I have never molested any child nor have you murdered one. I apologize for maligning your mother. Even though I cannot remember it, I apologize for it.

Often....I find myself asking myself what I have learned from the journey....We are lucky to be here, on this beautiful planet. We are lucky to have the short amount of time that we are granted. And we are lucky that our beautiful planet hasn't killed us (yet).
