Entirely to early. I'll be hitting up the High Altitude Race Course once the temperature is above 50 tomorrow

That is pretty sweet RPS. Take some pictures so you can post later. At what time is the temp over 50 degrees over there?

I don't know for sure. It will drop below around 7. Forecasted low tonight is 43. Yeah, good thing I have my knee and arm warmers with me.

If the course is still the same as it was in the old days, the last climb is quite a grind made worse by the altitude.
Have you ridden the rim trail? It is always a good ride.
    Definitely jealous of the temps.

Cool. A different kind of ride for Cloudcroft. Nothing as nice as the Rim Trail. We rode that last fall. Kinda choppy. Hope it is marked better for you than it was when we went. There was another trail we rode way out the Sunspot Highway and then left on a jeep road to the trail head. It took forever to get there and we had to dodge an unbelievable amount of cows. There was a small waterfall at the trailhead and the views on the trail were amazing. I wish I could remember the name.

I head Dog Canyon down closer to Alamogordo is also pretty cool.
It must suck to be you.

IF I get up early enough, I may join ya'll for the first part of the ride... then drop back and do a slow cruise. I rode 20 miles today at OP and Leon Creek and my legs are toast.

probaby not gonna make it. sorry if my non-call held you guys up. just too many bike issues, one with a broken spoke that I turned out not to have a replacement for and one with a wierd creak in the headset/headtube area that I couldn't sort out. combine that with staying up til 3 and no kids in the house... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzz

12 miles, 1500 ft of climbing, 2 hours of ride time. Pretty good course, almost completely rideable, 1'section of large downed trees early, couple of real steep rocky ups. Lotsa fun. No stoppage for pics.

I'm hearing that the Rim Trail might be to wet. We shall see for Tuesday maybe. Off to check out White Sands National Monument this afternoon.

I believe it is the rainy season. You might be able to ride the bottom part of the rim and back or halfway then ride the road back. It seems like the higher you get, the more chance for rain. Several years ago it was sunny when we started out and then all of a sudden a hellacious storm hit. We had to huddle under the trees to avoid the large hail that was falling. It was quite an experience.

    HI

Where are the places you are mentioning above? Cloudcroft, The Rim Trial, Sunspot Hightway, Dog Canyon?

Nice ride through Vinny's Revenge. A little bit of wood features, lots of rocks, cactus issues, lots of ratcheting thru trees and Will taking his bike for a walk.

Good change of pace from the wide open stuff..

    chainsaw

If the discount immigrant labor crew that made the trails wasn’t 5-7” tall and trail school dropouts…. that totally disregarded anything that would smash someone in the head that’s over 6-2” on a XXL 29er with long travel.…( putting my head at about a foot over the average sized 26” bikes and riders ) …. Id be able to stay in the saddle without having to keep my whole torso hunched down onto my toptube for the whole ride ..swallowing my headset..… to just fit under the stuff that those leprechauns on teeeeeny weeeeeny bikes fit under with ease..
I think…. To ride that path of destruction I may have to go out there with an extra gallon of gas and a small portable chainsaw… make it a lil bit more Clydesdale accessible. .

Oh yeah, and salado.. reminds me......
ask MikeDMan to check his PMs or ask him if he wants a free good sturdy regular hospital wheelchair as a patio chair. he can have it for the R&I's. comfortable and wont break easily like the last chair that fragged like a Carbon Fisher when i sat on it.
