    F#*$ing Prosopis juliflora (aka mesquite)

Tuesday night... first time hitting the trails in over a month. Opt for the night ride at Mac - awesome ride with the exception of one brief wipeout... on Armadillo - Gelb's curse (busted by middle finger about 50 yards away back in August).

    I took a digger into a bush...

got right up and started riding again. My right arm was cramping up everytime I tried to shift/brake, so I stopped and took a look.

This little bad boy decided to tag along for the ride... impaled in my arm up to the hub:

No biggie, right? Yeah, it hurt a lot later that night - mesquite thorns have a waxy toxin on them that cause pain/inflammation.

What I didn't count on was the infection to follow (cellulitis) over the next few days:

(The ink marks are where the infection spread to at 24-hr intervals)

He's just messing with your head mann. I think that infection made you lose your sense of humor, lets just hope that arm doesn't go next.
Bliss, bliss and heaven... it was gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh...Oh, it was wonder of wonders... And then, a bird of like rarest spun heavenmetal, or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now...

How big is the key? Deadbolt size or padlock size?

It's my front door (deadbolt) key. It went up my ass when I tumbled - that extraction just took a bit of bearing down. Prosopus gladtoknowya too. I never had a sense of humor. I pride myself on being serious 110% of the time. I also hate mountain biking almost as much as I hate drinking and skipping naked through my living room.

So that's about a 1.25" puncture wound... nice! How's the swelling?

Inbred... and as a legume, mesquite is a host for nitrogen-fixing bacteria of the genus Rhizobium - first step in the nitrogen cycle. At least that's what I recall from my undergrad ecology class (actually, I couldn't remember the genus name, so I had to look it up).

What site is the picture from? And how do you see where it came from?

Oh I see, right-click on Properties.

Swelling is just starting to go down. Keflex is good stuff. Rode Comfort today and about 4 miles in I got some gnarley forearm muscle spasms... guessing it's because of the infection and some pissed off muscle. And no, it's not a masturbation injury!
