Anybody doing the Rosedale ride?

It's this Saturday. My wife (Scuff) and I have registered. I am doing the 62 mile ride. I enjoyed the Ride thru the pines ride in Bastrop. These rides are for a good cause. This will be my second ride since getting sized up on my new Bianchi.

It feels weird posting on a Roadie board!:)

my skinny tyre bike is / was a raleigh r600, but now it is covered in stickers!

i drive a green saturn wagon & should be arriving around 7:30, as i will need to register

I signed up online, costs is $25. It may go up a bit a day or two before the ride but a very good cause. I understand there will be a great turnout.

we donated a HH jersey yesterday for the silent auction which will be held while people are there registering and I had a long chat with one of the teachers...

I would be be doing it if not for a scheduling conflict..
I told my son I would take him camping/fishing this weekend after being gone all weekend at the Comfort race..
I forgot about the Rosedale ride this weekend and he would not be happy if I cancelled on him...

I'm doing the ride with Mrs. Lester. We'll probably do the 45-mile route, but might go for the 62 miler if wind isn't too much of an issue.

I did the ride last year and really enjoyed it. The ride was well supported, and there was a big turn out (1200 riders, if memory serves). They had rest stops set up every 10 miles or so, with fruit and cookies and water and other stuff. The sucky side is that the route is fairly flat, and the scenery is forgettable, unless you're big into farmland. But with all the people to ride with and talk to and with all bikes to check out, the miles fly right on by.

One other thing: last year's 62-mile route was actually more like 68 miles.

I'll be there (again) this year if its not raining - 50% chance now. Last year the 42 and metric routes were together for first 20 - 30 mi. before the routes diverged. I'm going to have to do the 42 as I have a noon work commitment. If you want to go fast, line up at the front of the metric. It'll be pretty much of a group hammer (20 mph avg.). Say hey. I'll be in my UYS kit on a blue/white GT.

That is amazing! I had no idea it was that big. Wonder how many do the Roses ride? I'm looking forward to it, unless there is lightning. Although, I'd think riding in rain behind a bunch of riders might not be fun. Motivation to hammer through the masses.

A pointer for if it is raining: when drafting, don't get directly behind the wheel in front of you. Line up a couple of inches to the side so that the rooster tail hits you on the shoulder instead of in the face.
Hopefully, it won't rain tomorrow.

Well, that was pretty miserable. Cold and wet! We cut our plans down from 62 to 45 to 35 to 25 to 15 miles. I would have done the 8 mile loop if I'd seen the turn off.

I hope they still had a big enough turnout to raise money for the cause, though.

I was wondering how it was... Hopefully most people signed up/paid ahead of time. When I looked outside and saw the weather radar, it was an easy decision to stay in. How many would you guess turned out? Cold and wet, just can't hang with that business.

Debbie, nice to see you in the flesh - I was the red bearded dude w/ a yellow jersey in front of you for the first stretch of the ride. You were talkiing to Joanna & Mel for a while at the time ...

I agree, I almost talked you into turning back right as we started. I was so looking forward to doing the long loop. Oh well maybe next time. I think the turnout was still good.

It looked like several hundred showed up. The last half of the 62 mile loop was pretty much rain free.

Did you all stay together? I found Little Miss at the rest stop with the electic fence. We rode on and did the 46 miles. Yep it was pretty miserable. But the GIANT $2 fajitas at the end were great. I sat with the tortilla guy and put my feet near his fire for about 30 minutes.

matching Peleton? Nope, that was Mark - I was the guy next to Mark with the stickers all over the bike ... anyway

we stayed together until about mile 40 something, when Joann had a flat - Mel took off due to "locking up", then Mark, Joann and I stopped for her second flat, then another rider needed help with a flat, then Mark pumped up a slow leak. we did not catch Mel, but she had just finished when we pulled in

speaking of the electric fence, I dismounted from my patented sliding stop next to the electric fence and did not notice i was leaning on it (until two shocks later) the folks in line to pee were cracking up ... i thought it was funny myself!

the fajitas where great, and all proceeds went to the school ... very cool

LOL fun with eletric fences

i used to spend summers on the farm, lots of electric fences, and they hooked to the 110

i even used the low voltage dog one's before.

i had a mean neighboer that would open my gate to let my dogs out then call the dog catcher. i ran the electric fence to the gate handle. wish i had seen it but she never let my dogs out again after getting shocked.

someone had leaned thier bike against the fence, and you could see the spark hitting the seatpost ... we thought the seat might catch, but no luck!
