KXAN Weather sez,
“Latest radar imagery detects several thunderstorms that require attention. Storms in Kerr and Kendall Counties (to our West) now have Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. Isolated thunderstorms in Hays, Western Travis, and Gillespie Counties are showing signs of further development...”
So-o-o…there’s nothing within 100 miles of us. Worst case is we get wet which, to me, isn’t such a big deal.
I ride therefore I’m in.

Did you really have three flats yesterday? If so, BUMMER!!!
Sorry I missed you on the ride. Angela, Debbie, Ken and I started at 5:45.
My legs were very achey last night! And they weren't after last weeks ride - what's up with that.
And an @sshole in a fullsize extended cab truck decided he had the share the lane with me and Angela as we were going down the hill on 2222. Appearantly riding just to the right of the center of the lane wasn't "taking the lane" in that schmucks opinion.

I actually requested a slightly earlier start time. been feeling sluggish and prone to gasping for air. if my slowness will not jeapordize a well lit return flight then 6pm will be fine.

UM, I feel like I just entered the twilight zone. What's up your avatars Dirt and Anita?
I can't get there before 6 or else I would love to start a little earlier. Hopefully this week I won't have any flats. I should have gotten them all out of my system.
Total so far over the passed 7 days:
Mountain bike: 3
Road bike: 3
interesting........I always suspected that flats happen in 3's. you're living proof of that.

If'n I can tear myself away from my office in time I'll be there.
I wanna be there ... but you know how it can go, eh? *shrug*
I'll be there tomorrow.
It is going to be hot and humid!!! Good thing I bought another polar bottle this weekend. Cold water - it's a good thing :p

I'm in for an early start if you're still interested Jody - or anyone else - 5:30 at Cycle 360??

jody, change of plans for me. My car's battery is dead so I'll be working on that and helping my wife by taking some pics of a house she's going to list and probably won't be able to ride. I will definately still be there at 6 (or a little earlier) with the trainer though.

I won't be able to make it after all. Got too much work to do.
Everyone have fun, be safe and watch out for big white trucks while going down the hill on 2222.
And if that a$$hole in the white truck does get close, someone get the license plate number. We can give it to Dirtface and maybe Mr Dirtface Detective can make a call.

So much to do, so little time...
I will probably be there closer to 6pm - I'll get there as early as I can, but I have a feeling the earliest I'll be able to make it is 5:45.
Ed - hope the car repairs go smoothly!
See ya!
I'm _trying_ to make it out too, but no way it's gonna happen for me before 5:50~6pm.
Not that this should cause anyone to wait up for me, I'll get a tow from a passing pickup or something to catch up if I have to ... NOT

Hey, good to see everyone even though I wasn't riding. Ron from cycle 360/360 cycle works came out just after everyone left with a box of water bottles then proceeded to play biker santa by putting bottles on y'alls cars. I guess jody probably told y'all... anywho, say thanks to uncle ron next time you see him!
Jody, thanks for buying my trainer, it's gonna be a big help 'round here. Changed the battery, everything else looked fine. whew! only a $60 repair.

Dirt, with your two flats tonight, and my 3 last week, now is a good time to ask...

I'm going back to slime on my MTB and would love it on my road bike since I've had 6 flats this week.

alright DF, I've got to throw this out there. one morning I saw you inflate your road bike tires to 80-90lbs and I think they're rated at 120ish. you may be underinflating them, depending on what's causing the flats.even 5 lbs will make a large difference on 23c width tires. don't be afraid, there are tires that inflate to 140 and more. I use exactly what the max rated pressure is for my tires since I'm a big boy. you could probably get away with the minimum for a more supple ride.
what do you think is causing them? glass and sharp rocks?
DirtFace
06-10-2003, 10:40 PM
My tires are 130 and I inflate them to 120. I am sure you saw correctly at the bakery rides but I have learned a few things in the last couple months. I remember hitting something tonight and hoping that I wouldn't flat, wrongo...
The second flat was a defective tube, it wouldn't inflate at all.
Anita Handle
06-10-2003, 10:45 PM
yeah, I figure that was a while back and you might have started to inflate them higher. just a thought.
dunno what else might give.

We were riding in a double pace line on 620 before realizing that there was entirely too much trash on the shoulder for a tight formation. Just after we formed a single file I picked up a strand of bailing wire that poked into one side of the chainring, once around the spindle, and back out.
Seemed like a lot more road junk than last week.

I was flatting a lot two years ago all along 360/620. I switched to Michelin Axial Pro Carbon tires which are a little thicker and have a carbon layer to resist punctures. This worked pretty well but I still flatted on occasion. Then I took my tire pressure from 120 down to 100PSI after I read the tip from www.roadbikerider.com. The bike rides a lot better (doesn't "chatter" on the rough turns) and now I've had zero flats in over a year. It's been too long for me to call it just luck. Try keeping your pressure no more than 100 PSI. You may be surprised at how well it works, it surprised me.
DirtFace: REI (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=5182&parent_category_rn=4500886) carries Slime tubes, their web site adverts a 700x19c tube for 7 bucks.
BSS may have some too.

OMG, I’ve become a roadie geek. I’ll be back after 3 loops at CP.

Just wondering........who was generously stashing cycle360 water bottles on all the cars in the parking lot last night? I'd like to say thanks!

Thanks katana, reducing the "chatter" would probably be more comfortable too. I am going to try reducing the psi next ride. I know that I would not like to hit a pothole going down 2222 at 53 mph and flat. Scary thought. I am definitely new to road riding and appreciate your advice. I will check out the website.
I also appreciate everyone else's advice too, the more the better.

me, bear, whoever! Ron is cool, he remembered my full name from when I bought my NRS from him like two years ago. Don't know about who was putting them there - but I saw Racer-X steal a bunch of them... :)
Good ride last night. Either I'm getting slower or the pace of this ride keeps getting faster.
For slime tubes - you can buy them 'pre-slimed' or you can just cut a hole in a regular tube, put the slime in, and patch it. Knock on wood - but I haven't experienced too many flats on the road bike - I keep my tires around 100 - 120 psi. Have you checked the tire to insure there's nothing in there? I know I had a rash of flats a couple of months ago caused by on little sliver of metal that keep putting a hole in every tube I installed.
