View Full Version : Flak Jackets
Since I've never seen them on a bike, haven't looked closely anyway, and I see that several of you have them, I want to verify that I did the bottom pull part of the derauiller correct.
Thanks!

you are correct sir!
how you like em?
did the little rubber bootie fit somewhat tight over the black plastic tube? if not, you can cut a bit of the red sheild and slip it over the black tube and then put the bootie on the red shield.
also, some of the pro mechanics like to pack the little black boot with grease, run the cable through, and then fix the cable to the bolt. the grease won't travel down the sheild and will keep dirt traped in the boot and out of the cables way. when you get a new set, just flush out the boot and repack with grease. or, if the boot is torn up, replace it.
what other new bits on the bike?
Thanks for the help as always. I also just changed out my old cranks, don't even know what they were, just said Shimano on them, with a set of XT Hollowtechs, made a big difference in how pedalling feels. Also have a Thompson Elite stem on order that should be in this week. That means the only "stock" things left on the bike are the shifters, seat - WTB SST X2, and the bar. Everything else is either XT or Thompson. Now if it would only warm up a few degrees I could get off the trainer and put in some real time.

anytime.
make sure to check the crank bolts periodically (every 10 hours of riding) to make sure the bolts don't come loose.
I had read that in another post and have it marked down to check periodically.

Is there an issue of mojo mag devoted only to maintenance periods? I realize I check some things periodically, but realize I do it so rarely that a check list would be best for me...anyone??
