Wes sent this out, everyone should try and make it.
Wes Bickham, a member of SWT Cycling sent this email out regarding the U-camp trail out in Wimberley, and expanding them.
Hola! Amigos
There is a meeting Thursday July 3rd I have set up at Pedal Power for discussing the future of the trails at UCamp at 6:30 pm. It would be great for you to come and bringing someone interested. I have been using UCamp as a GPS and GIS application and would like to create a group that will not only manage the conservation of the trail but as well as the initiation of new sustainable trails to extend current length. This is only through the allowance of the land manager which is scheduled after the results of the meeting. The hope is that the group will be made up of the community with a partnership developed from the SWT Cycling Team, so everyone is able. This is a meeting to express a desire to create and maintain San Marcos and Hill Country mountain biking trails. Anyone who rides knows that trails just do not appear, and I believe in lending a helping hand to the trails that give me so much. I also am seriously interested in SWT hosting a race in the Spring of 2004 at UCamp, but work needs to be done. Come, check it out. Also, feel free to forward this message to anyone interested. If you cant make the meeting but have some input, or just would like to keep in touch of further events, email me.
Happy Trails,
Wes Bickham

Hey Andy...
You gotta get Wes on the mojo man! Anyways, I would definitely be there on thurs but I have to leave town that morning after the final exam (barf). But, count me in on some help during the rest of the summer or during the fall. I gotta' get out there and check U-camp out...btw, is the red tape still keeping us from riding out there??

Yo Pace!
I'll be heading out of town early Thursday afternoon, so I won't be able to make it. I am interested in helping out, of course, so we can have a race there.

is my dh run still out there?

Don't know which run you are talking about, but there do seem to be a bunch of old lines that go downhill that look like they can be revived. I think people that used to go to U-Camp when it was used more should come out and show us newer guys what we're missing.

ill see if i can dig up a few of the old pictures of it. my sophomore and junior year, matt mccabe and i cut a sweet dh run that ran from top to bottom. im not sure what xc loop you guys do now but if it is still the old loop and you start from the river and ride away from the house you start to twist up hill through some singletrack with some killer cliffs that overlook the river to your right. there is some really sweet steep stuff in that section that we used to session as well. once you get to the top of the xc loop it will start to veer to the left and kinda runs parallel with the fence line (you cant see it though) it opens up and is sort of rocky with some terrace type ledges to your left. about halfway through the middle of this section is where the dh run intersects perpendicular....if you go to the right it was cut all the way to the fence. and goes all the way to the parking lot. id love to take the big bike back out there.

Wes Bickham sent this out...
Hola amigos,
Hope this email finds everyone well. I'm stoked about the meeting and the support we have going towards this project. At the meeting we discussed the general condition of the trails, the trails as a GIS application and what direction to head management efforts. First, there is news of the land manager at Ucamp leaving her position, and there may be no replacement for awhile. Andy is communicating with land manager for a meeting this week or next. Second, all those interested in trail work should make it out to Canyon Lake trails July 19th, Saturday at 8:00am. Email me if you can so that I can let the TBC know how many to expect. If possible, James Buratti has offered to run through some methods of hill country trail building and maintenance. Maybe, if people would be interested, volunteering that Saturday and then traveling to Ucamp for the night. We could spend Sunday hiking the trails and discuss what deserves the most attention. Let me know, any ideas much appreciated. I will email a map to Canyon Lake or at least a set of directions this week. If you have any questions email me back or call me at 512-878-8024.
Happy Trails,
Wes Bickham

I met a few SWT alums this weekend, a couple of which were interested in the U-camp revival. On a side note, there also seems to be interest in an alumni race if we hold one.
Keep the dream alive! Let's get some stuff done out there!
Get Wes on Mojo!

I think we should take advantage of our last few free days before school starts, and do some work out at UCAMP. I was thinking about going out there Monday and/or Tuesday during the day. Any takers? Even just three or four of us can do a lot of damage out there. I'll give Wes a call and see if he has anything in particular we should do or whatever.
Oh, and I don't have any tools :D Are there any at UCAMP we can use?
I know there was a thread about it, but what's the deal with access and permission to build/modify?

Well, guess what. I can't go to UCAMP Mon. or Tues. someone has to go out of town, so I get to teach a class all day Mon. and Tues. Sux 'cause I was looking forward to going out there, good 'cause I'm broke and can use the money.:D

Okay, since school is just staring, I guess I don't have to use my "scheduled study time" becausee there will not be much to do. As a result, I'll be going to UCAMP on Thursday Morning at around 10:00. I will ride, fix trails, explore and do whatever else out there for at least a few hours. Hopefully someone will joing me.
Again, I don't have any tools. Are there any at UCAMP we can use?
