Attendees: Matt V, Chris M, Ed, and myself

Topics: Open Road and Colliegate MTB Race
Sponsorhips
Jerseys, Shirts, Socks
Weekly Rides

RACES:

We need to consider having a collegiate MTb race out at Canyon Lake. The course we be at least 7 miles, and think we could get plenty of support putting it on. The spring would be the ideal semester so we can have time to make sure the trail is good to go. We will have to talk to Camino Real group and seee what we can set up, since they are doing the trail. I have mentioned to a few of them and they are all for it.

We were thinking about trying and starting a open road race here in san marcos. This would be open event and consist of possibly a 100k, 40, and 20 mile course, all depends. I think this would be an awesome oppurtunity to do some fundraising and get ourselves out the whole the team has dug over at campus rec. This would happen in the spring as well. With enougn effort this could become an annual event, such as the SWT triathlon.

SPONSORSHIPS:

Sponsorships are everywhere. Chris is going to talk to the biek shop in NB, I will talk more to pedal power. Basically we decided everyone needs to start talking to places and hook it up. I know we dont have much to offer right now, but we have to start somewhere. We already have free labor at pedal power now. A guy from UT has emailed a few times and has connections with CLif Bar and austin bike shops. We need to get many possibilities set up some come fall we can act on them, once we see where the team stands, etc.

CLOTHING

**We are going to have to wait until the fall until we know what the school is going to do with a new design for the university. However we can start researching jersey/short companies now for the best deals. Socks would be a nice bonus.

At the second meeting of the year, we can have people who are interested bring in a template for a new tshirt and we can vote. Otherwise I have this very very basic one we can use and save some money. SO start thinking about designs.

RIDES

Having a MTB and Road ride coordinaters would be a good idea. Someone who is in charge of each ride doing the week to be there for sure and see it happens. I am thinking we should try to have 5 ride possibilities a week. The NB group ride all the time on the road, they also have a MTB ride every wed. at canyon lake. So we could hook up with them as well has have a few rides a week. I am planning on getting a lodge out at U-Camp one of the first weekends in september and spending the night and riding all day out there, also a meet everyone thing. Bell Tower needs to be started up again as well. Spinn classes will probably be do at your own will. I will check for indiv. discounts for those.

There is alot more on mine and I am sure all of you as well these some things we discussed briefly. I think we are going to have awesome year this year.

Let me know what you think.

Oh, and we need to advertise the team much more than in the past. So I am going to see if we can get a table out in the Quad for about a week, at the beginningof the fall. Here is a simple flyer I made up that I have been passing out at the freshman orientrations, print some out and hand them out if you feel llike it.

http://www.swt.edu/~ap1060/team_flyer.htm

you can print as many as you want at the library, and use the paper cutter as well.

Andy & Everyone,
What does everyone think about having Nalini (Team Bianchi brand), Louis
Garneau, not Nike (I checked) or another higher quality brand make jerseys. We had Voler at UT this last year and their longevity and quality is questionable to many members and myself. I have some ideas for a jersey. If anyone liked the UT jersey, shhhh, it was a knockoff of a past Mercatone Uno design from the pro team.
Sponsorships. An alumni of the team, Chris, the lead Texas rep. for Clif Bar is cool enough to help us out. Also, Airborne (owned and founded by an alumni) will give us 25% off bikes. I have a bunch of sponsorship ideas, including some for money to help the team financially. It will take 40 stamps to get them all out. I surfed almost every major US collegiate team, from Harvard to Nebraska for good sponsor ideas.
I really want to help, so someone put me to work. Happy Trails,

J o e y :-)

Joey, yaeh man the only sponsorhip we have is Rudy Project and Pedal POwer in San Marcos. There is another shop in New Braunfels that I need to talk to. Clif Bar sounds awesome along with the others. See what you can do with them, we are open to anything this semester. If you want to check out the prices, etc. of different jersey companies and have it ready to go at the beginning of the sem. We dont know the logo, or even the abbv. of the name yet so we cant do much. It would be nice to have something waiting for the go ahead. Lets definetly meet sometime, i want to hear what you got. Lemme know when a good time for you is. I have been moving all last week, but now I am finally getting some free time.

Awesome ideas...we should hit Valentinos again soon for a meeting. About "the other shop in New B" I talked with Reed at The Hub and he said he is willing to help out. He is still getting settled in, but said he would help in any way he could. Let me know about another meeting, ill be around all week.

Is nalini still made in Italy, if so their stuff is sized for Italians (who appearantly have tiny little bean pole legs). I would recomend castelli or vitesse for quality and longevity. Vitesse used to (probably still does acctually) make the kit for the postal service team so good stuff. Also they are super cool about smaller orders. Castelli is simply put the best stuff out there (except maybe for assos, but $150 is a little steep), I still hace a castelli skinsuit from '96 that's been through two 30+MPH crashes with almost no damage (because of the quality of the material, not chance). I've owned all kinds of stuff over the years and the castelli stuff was always the best. It does cost a touch more for custom jersies from them, but you get waht you pay for and you can also get a screaming deal on standard black shorts with the order (their shorts ROCK). So that would be my recomendation. Lous Gaurneu made the crappiest skinsuit I've ever owned and the 2nd worst culb jersy I've ever owned. Peal Izumi makes decent stuff too, but expensive and not at all flexible for small teams. Aussie has a terrible way of doing business (evey time I've had to deal with them the jersies have been at least six months late). Voler is about par as far as reasonably priced custom jersies unfortunately. The reason I started UT on them was because of the sponsorship/catalog deal (which wasn't kept up with after I left unfortunately). If any other names pop into mind I'll let you know. I've heard bad things about verge as well, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I've got a nice jersy made by cannondale, it might be worth checking them out. If it were up to me I'd go with castelli and not even think about it, but the club should look into it's options better than that.
