I recently bought Panaracer Fire XC pro tires 2.1 for both front and rear. I didn't see any indication that the tread pattern was supposed to go in any specific direction, so I just put em' on. But in the back of my mind I kept thinking about what it said on the package: "Adaptable to front or rear by changing the installation direction" so IS there a specific way that the tread should be facing?
A bunch of us run the same tires and yes, they are directional. Look for the arrow on the sidewall that says front, meaning the arrow points to the front of the bike when mounted on the wheel. That's the way you want to mount it, otherwise the tire won't get a good bite going into turns.

Thx
I will look a little closer at the sidewall. So does that mean that the arrow on the rear tire should point behind me?

You are exactly right. I also run these tires, only in the 1.8 version. Anyway, another way to check is look at the tread itself. It has triangles as part of the actual tread design. For the front, when looking down, the triangles should point to where you are going and the rear triangles should point to where you have been.
P.S. These tires kick ass.
