For those who have trained on the "Ft. Sam Loop," the stretch road between Binz-Engleman & the School is almost done. That was the BUMPIEST part of the loop.

The THREATCON may soon allow anyone (with Driver's License & Insurance...Yes the MP's CHECK) back on post to ride:D

The Loop is great, cuz traffic in that part of Ft. Sam is OK (even at Quitting Time).

I'll keep the MoJo Roadies posted :D

I am thinking you need to lead us on an inaugural ride Rick!

Book it!

Roger that Scott...

It's a very poular 3 mile training loop with many Roadies. The beauty of it is...Traffic there is sparse at best (even during rush hour), and the speed limit is 25MPH and enforced by MP's who just LIVE TO TICKET FOLKS...I think they have pet-names for their radar guns (Sort of like Sledge Hammer's "Amigo"). It is a slight rolling speedy kinda loop...Good for that weekday fix. I take my bike into work, and ride it when I get off.

I'll keep ya posted.:D

Weegster,
What is this loop you speak of? Isith the one that runs along the inner part of the base? I haven't tried riding on any of the bases, except for Randolph's perimeter road. Is that even open anymore to joggers and riders because of the Threatcons?

Short but tasty 3 (or so) Mile loop...Park across from Dept. of Combat Medic Training (Bldg 1374), anf on Thursdya Evenings ya can't miss all the roadies in the Parking Lot. Loop goes like this...Turn left out of Parking Lot and ride on the road by the pool...Keep buzzing by the golf course on your left till ya hit the school...TIGHT right turn @ the Stop Sign,...Rip down by Salado Creek with other part of Golf Course on your right...Scream up to Binz Engleman, but take the runners turn, and turn left and there is a short semi-steep hill (approx 300 Meters) to stand up and hammer on, or if yer like me, stay in the saddle and say to yourself (while imitating Robin) "Atomic Generators to power...Turbines to speed..." Hehehe...Then you are back by the parking lot...I usually churn this route for an hour ro so...GREAT place to interval train:D

When the construction is finished, I will post.

ALSO: I spoke with a cute little MP (There goes my professionalism... And she said you can get on post, just need a "photo ID...IE: Drivers License" , and PROOF OF INSURANCE (Leaves Chief Out!)

More to follow...

The MP told me folks can come on post, but they need to present Photo ID, and PROOF OF INSURANCE. They put you on a roster of vehicles entering post. They may search ya first...

What if I ride to post? Sometimes when I'm home I park at UIW (my lil sis goes there) and then ride up to post. Not trying to make things difficult or anything. I can bring the auto insurance and my license, but I don't think I'd need the insurance if I'm riding. However, if they have any females MPs that want to search me, I'll be sure to wear bibs and short length zipper jersey that day :)

Cool deal. I'm looking at the calender, and I probably won't be back in SA till the end of the month. I'm training this next weekend here in Houston, then have the "Bluebonnet Express" the following weekend, followed by the Fayetteville Stage Race the weekend after that. I'd be most interested in riding on Ft. Sam. Do post when they finish that road up. They should have it done by the end of the month?

Nope...

There is Blacktop down, but it is still coarse. The Steamrollers are parked, but the barracades are still up.

I'll post when the road opens. It is a fast. zippy 2.7 mile loop.:D

RAIDER...Here is the loop. Does this help? When I first got here in Feb 02, this loop is a regular Thursday evening ride for many. There are always riders on it. I like it cuz I can ride it after work, it is fast, rolling, and has a sharp turn or two (to "carve"), and the traffic is slow (Those MP'd...Gotta love 'em). A good loop to spin your legs, and rip.:D

I'll post when it's open.

I remember that little loop! I had a buddy from HS stationed there when he got out of basic. I remember seeing riders on there all the time, but it didn't dawn on me.

The road is paved, and the yellow lines are painted.

The barricades are still up though

Hey, I got on the rode bike today and my wrist felt pretty good, so I am interested in doing this training loop with you. However, Thursday is the downtown ride and I like doing that ride a lot. What other day after work would be good for you?

How Wednesdays. That seems to be the best day for me. I get out of work at 4:15 and should be able to be there by 4:45 or 5 at the latest.

Cool! I'll have to check it out when I'm in SA again. Are they checking identification still? Can I get on with a dependent or retiree?

Go through the Binz-Engleman Gate (off of I35 near BAMC), and the MP/DOD Rent-a-Cops can issue a "Day Pass":D

You'll need some type of Photo ID, and Proof of Car Insurance.

Cool deal. I'm going to have to give it a whirl on one of the weekends I'm back home. Thanks!

The MP's tell me ya don't have to be military to get on base, BUT...

If you are not military or retired, etc., use the BINZ-ENGLEMAN Gate off of I-35...This is the only gate they can issue a "Day Pass."

All you'll need is Photo ID of some sort (Driver's License). They will issue a Day Pass for you to display on your dashboard as long as you are on base that day. :D

That's cool, no problem with me by that. After the past weekend Snoopy and I had up at Victory Circle in Dallas, riding solo isn't half bad!

They fixed the sidewalk, so now there is a nice smooth apron turn into the street onto Williams Rd. :D
