terry says he's ready SA Ranch, and as always, i'm up for the nutty technical stuff.

he wants to get out there early....7 or 8 if i remember but i'm not sure if that's a meeting time or dirt time?

the loop will be a short, 5-8 miles, with a descent from the top of black hill to finish it off.

anyone else interested?

Carlos,

hey I haven't signed up with Storm but have ridden with some of the Storm people in the past (Great Experience!!!)

I will have another rider with me, we use to ride the Ranch once a week but always did the same trail. We have been trying to meet up with someone else to exchange trail info.

Where do you meet? I vote to start early say meet at 7, on trial by 7:15.

Oh and Terry,

I have one suggestion. get the biggest helmet that you can find

http://www2.cybernex.net/~intrtech/Spaceball1/RASBERRY.gif

And when you are outta control, flying through the air, try to climb inside of it and bounce like a beach ball.

Boing boing boing....

I will be at Bike World Blanco Road at 8:00 am, I hope. Otherwise, I will call Terry to cancel. Later would be better. After all this is Saturday night. Where do you park for SA Ranch? On Hwy 16?

an great ride. i'll let terry tell his bit and ben too.

the downhills were tech-y as usual. ben cleaned the worst one on his firt trip out there and that was awesome. not many even consider that one. i took a point and shoot so he's got proof. terry, on his new bike cleaned lots of tech-y sections and had no problem floating over the few rocks that are found here an there. squish squish. he even ended the ride at the parking area with a bike themed version of a song from the musical Oklahoma!

coooooool!

ben, terry, what did ya think?

My head is still moving up and down. I feel like everything I am stepping on is a loose rock. Bad flashbacks man.

I liked the ranch's rawness. I walked quite a bit, but I also rode quite a bit and had fun pushing safety's limits many different times. I would definitely go back. Just not any time real soon. Hehehe.

Ben was the real story out there today. He went out there with a positive "I can do it or at least try it" attitude. The downhill section Carlos described Ben doing was scary and sketchy. I didn't even consider trying this one and I tried all the other sections. Ben wiped first try, got up and tried another couple of times and cleaned the section like he had been doing it all his life. You ruled today Benster!

Thanks Carlos and thank yo Mama for the refill.

Oh yeah, Carlos really does eat massive amounts of meat. I had the privilege of witnessing the carnage today. Yikes. He almost ate half a side o beef.

Damn, Im impressed, Terry. Ive been hesitant about riding the ranch because of all the stories and its notoriety. Ill be going out there real soon.:)

Had to do it. Carlos put it in the contract when he put my bike together. But now I am no longer bound by that contract.

Its tough but if you like bouncing around and making cool technical slipping rock sections then you will like the ranch. It is definitely not for everyone. It should be sampled though.

sampled like a fruit from the "fruit of the month" club?

Lemme guess...
You went to Ninfas and watched Carlos devour a pound of beef fajitas.

Watched and participated. But I only devoured 1/4 lb. Carlos made his pound of fajitas look like a half a pound. That little fucker can eat...

Yup!

SA ranch must really make him hungry
He ate a pound of red meet after he took me out there. I had the 1/2 lb and thought that I would explode.

It was funny, when he ordered the 1lb of Fajitas the waiter thought that he was going to share it, the waiter nearly fell over when he was told 'Nope, it's all for me!'

SA Ranch on Sun was the best climbing and descending (which I dig) ride I've enjoyed since a ride in Arizona a year ago. Mainland was fun on Sat., but SA RAnch was exquisite on Sun. That trail complex is easily the most MOUNTAIN of our SA-area MTB experiences.

I'll need to go back at least once more before I can remember the trail names, but I'll never forget my first taste of SA Ranch. And go back I will... SA Ranch is definitely added to my monthly rotation of weekend rides.

The hilltop trail (whatever its name, if any) that we portaged up and challenged ourselves down required me to pay the toll before it would let me pass. But, I finally cleared a particularly loose section on the third attempt and I'm a better rider for the experience. If at first you don't succeed, give blood. Then, try again.

Thanks to Carlos and Terry for a morning well spent! Carlos asked me after the ride what SA Ranch was most like, and I answered Oklahoma (specifically Greenleaf Lake Trail, see http://www.mtbr.com/trails/Oklahoma/GreenleafLakeTrail.html). At this point, Terry busted out with a showtune to cap off the adventure.

Carlos insisted that I eat breakfast to store some energy. I had energy reserves left after this ride. Enough energy in fact that I could break into my bicycle rendition of Oklahoma.

It was the least I could do after watching you work it out on that gnarly techfest of a downhill section. If you can't clear (try) a section, a little song and dance always helps.

rene, i'm not too sure but let me know when you have some time and i could meet you at bike world or somewhere close by.

sa ranch and beef seem to be suited well to eachother. i think it's the rocks. or maybe the rocks. soemtimes i see a few rocks and i think of beef.

ben, the first long climb is called the hammer. then we took squeaky windmill trail (unfortunatly there was no wind blowing that day) to a new one that came back to the point where SWT and the hammer meet. from there we went up 7 sisters (so called because of the seven tiers) that must be ridden to get to the top of black hill. the last trail was just some sketchy downhill that needs a name. i think anthony named it but i forgot. we saw a bit of superly and there's still Mr. T and happy trail, the service road (from hell), and this three part downhill that's as sketchy as the hammer.

the colons doing well, alan, in fact, isn't the colon made of beef? or is it bacon?

All I can add to this is that whenever Carlos the Colon Man says he has to go, we all better clear a wide path for him - and stay far upwind!!!

Fajitas Rule! Hell no, not chicken - BEEF!!!
