I realize that most of the people that visit this board are pretty active in STORM and already volunteer for different MTB related functions but I will post it here in case there is someone else that would like to more involved.
There are a few STORM Commitees that could use some volunteers, first is the YMCA Ranch. Frank can use all the help he can get out at the ranch, I am volunteering to call membership but would like some help. Is anyone interested in making some phone calls, if so contact me and I will give you some of the list. The next work day is 21 July (next Saturday). This is great oppertunity for STORM make a positive impact on our community. Next is The news letter, Jeanine Meque is our current editor and is doing a great job, if anyone could come up with some articles, tips, or maybe reviews it would a great help. If anyone would like to volunteer for any STORM committee contact me.Thanks
-MOE
I think that getting some of this info out on the web (here or on the STORMBoard) is good. There are more people who check the boards than make it to the meetings.
I know that there is a Race Committee. What exactly are the other committees?

ditto to alans ?, plus many others.
How kind I find out more about what storm is up to. Maybe these ?'s have answers on the storm site?
can I form a committe, can I chair a committee. why are sign-up sheets for committees and chairs not passed around at meetings.l
are there executive meetings
when are elections
What are the officers chief duties ( or yours at least)
When are you going to spend some time with me and other interested parties showing us what you do as an officer. A good officer trains future replacements before he abandons us for Utah.
Does Jonas have Interns?
Thanks Moe, your hard work is appreciated, Us slacker Mofos better get our asses in gear if we want to try to fill your large shoes.

Frank, all of the YMCA trail building days made it in this monthes news letter. I e-mailed them out last night and added comments in the message. I am not sure when I will be able to make it out there, I will be calling as many members as I can this week so I can get the word out. Can you remind me of meeting times and places please?
Chris and Alan, the only active commitee's that I am aware of are the race committee, trail maintenance, and the YMCA. The problem is that so few members are actually willing to get involved because of the misconception of massive time commitment. I will take the blame for this because I should be contacting membership more to explain. By the way I quit my second job, so I will have more time to encourage volunteerism through phone call and e-mails. I believee there has to be a vote to start a committee, I am away from the by-laws and will check when I get back to town. I will be glad to train anyone that is interested in taking over. I think I am Jonas's intern. This will Jonas's last year as president and I am still not sure if I will be gone by the end of the year, so we need people to step up. I know almost everyone that is registered on this board and have heard some great idea's. I can think of a hand full of you guys and gals that could do a better job than I. I hope some of you will consider taking that next step.
Sorry went of on a tangent there, as far as duties. The by-laws are a generic guide on how we are supposed to operate. I will tell you what I see as my duties, I will do anything that needs to done. I take every critisism of STORM pesonally and will defend our club until the death, we are not perfect but we have the best intentions. I will admit when there is something wrong and try to fix it. If there is a meeting or event Jonas cannot attend I go. Jonas and I both try to make it to community meeting when it concerns cycling. I try to give the best impression about our club that I can, I want poeple to want to join STORM after talking to me. I HAVE A DREAM....oh wait thats for a different message board. If you have more questions please feel free to ask them, I have only been a member for two years and I am still trying to figure some of this stuff out. We really lack continuity.

Yep, I had the impression you would be the next president, and was dissappointed to hear you may be leaving us.
I'm glad we are discussing club operations here. I think effective communications and open discussion can be very helpful.
June was my first Storm meeting. Here were my initial impressons. It seemed more social than productive. Which is fine.
That is why I asked if there were executive meetings. Meetings where the officers and committee chairs get together w/o the distraction of food and drink and socializing and discuss where the club is going and what needs to be done. Other members would of course be welcome to attend.
Please post when there is a meeting affecting cycling. Maybe some of us will be able to attend.
Which committees need chairs.
Any ideas what committees we should form? (? is for everybody, not just Moe.)
Frank is YMCA. I think Alan and I should both do one, too.
Moe;
Due to the limited members that actively support STORM cannot have many committees so you kinda group them together.
Consider....
Race Committee
Trail Development (to include stuff like YMCA, Gov't Canyon and trail maitainance)
Recruitment and retention (perhaps also being responsible for PR functions, newsletter, fun stuff like rides/TT etc)
Any others???
I propose (and I don't know if I can do this) that we decide what committees are needed so that this can be discussed at the next meeting (at Alamo Cafe right?)
Then we can start to go ahead with this. The committees could report to the members each month at the meeting. Plus the web and email.
Alan, Moe
I'm sitting here with one of my managers ( we just did thirty miles) and he say's it shouldn't be a problem. However I need some specs.
How many , what times ,do you want a quiet place or do you just want a table. On Mondays it's a little slower. If you don't mind the patio I can pretty much make it happen. I'll even be able to wait on y'all ( it's my night off) .
Sorry chief no pitchers of beer but we do serve pitchers of Margaritas.
Let me know . Moe has my number.

Hey Chief, Im real interested on joining the YMCA committee, the only problem is , I have a shitty work schedule since Im starting school. So I wont be able to make some of the workdays. But I would love to participate and finally get to see a virgin ranch like the Y become a badass bike ranch like Flatrock. I can get the time off for committe meetings and such, so theres no problem with other routine committee duties. Id love to have the honor to gain experience trail building and to watch this ranch grow. Moe or Chief, If you have any ques. feel free to call me at 682-3066 or e-mail me at rjian@satx.rr.com.

#1-article five "committees" paragraph one of the south Texas off road mountain-bikers bylaws states;
"5.01 COMMITTEES
Specific committees may be established by the board of directors by a majority vote of directors present to perform the duties and functions delegated by resolution. The board will establish the number and terms of committee positions. The president of the board or its desgnee will appoint directors, officers, or others to specific committee positions. The rules of procedure for any committee will be set by the board, or, by resolution, by the committee. any committee may be abolished or any committee member removed for any reason and at any time by the board of directors."
For instance the race director is the chairman of the race committee and is picked by the board of directors. the members picks the board of directors by voting. the board of directors picks from the 116 active enthusiastic members who can't wait to get involved.
#2-we are not going to let you leave. your enthusiastic commitment, and love for storm is much appreciated by this member. you and Jonas have done an excellent job, much better than I could have, just ask Kinney.
#3-yeah who? Moe, if you and the storm board accepts my request to sit on the committee to select qualified and interested members to be placed on the ballot for the annual election, I will need to know who that handful of guys and gals are. or better yet I'll need you on the election committee.
#4-I have a feeling you will be defending it even after death. who says storms not perfect. storm has done quite a lot of good for the local mountain biking. I see our critics having fun at rides, races, and other events organized by storm. they just like to bitch let me. only I'm better at it. on several occasions over the past eight years at the 700 acres Tuesday night ride I would find myself in the company of someone criticizing storm. often as they left after the ride they would ask "are we meeting next week" the answer was always yes. the Tuesday night ride is the oldest ride established by storm. the first discussions about organizing were done between 1990 and 1992.
#5-back in the day, we dreamed that the club would be around in ten years, and would be active in many areas of the community. my dream has come true.
#6-I'm not sure but I think I have storm figured out. now I'm trying to figure out Mojo. this could take 20 years. I like to think of Mojo as the outlaw committee of the storm.
