So Valley Cyclery bit the dust.

I wondered how this town could support 5 bike shops. Then the two smallest shops consolidated and Valley went under. Suddenly it's down to 3. I always thought BCS and Aggieland were the two best ones, so I'm glad they remain intact. But for how long? Go buy something from them.

That would be quite a drive.

I was talking to the hordes of BCS mojos. Now stop interrupting.

The guy at Valley is going back to school for a Masters. He is out of the bike business--and glad. He said that despite managing a successful bike shop, he has to move on. He suggested Aggieland, but I had a first-timer's bad experience there. But, now better. (I ranted about it on Dirt Rag's forum).

Well, I guess that would explain it. It surprised me that Valley went out of business, since they had the best location and brand recognition.

BCS has had some hood mechs in the past, but there's been a lot of turnover in the last half year or so, as most of them graduated and moved on. I don't know some of the mechs who work there now. But Zach will be there for a couple months more, I think, and he gets my endorsement. When my fork needed the steer tube cut and the star-fangled nut installed, he was the only guy in town I was going to entrust w/ such a permanent operation. Not that there weren't others, but I knew he would do it right. And he did.

I bought a Trek 830 from Valley in '93 and a Trek 1000 later that same year... the college days. It's kindof sad to see it go.
