The wife is leaving town for the weekend so I can actually ride all weekend with no worries!

I would like to hit Rocky Hill but don't want to get in the way of any races (I'd get ground up like meat).

If I want to just go, ride and have a cold beer or three when I am done, can I do that with all the festivities out there? If I show up just to ride will I get booted? Inquiring minds want to know.

I hope not, cause that's my plan too. ;)

You gotta pay some cashola to get in. Races might be more. If they try and throw us out, I've got some PBR cans in the trunk we can use to defend ourselves.
:p

mmmmm PBR and chili dogs, the pre-wedding festivities for me and my friends. Can you get PBR down here? What about Point?

My kingdom for a case of Point...or some Singha, I miss Thailand again...

Down here as in Austin? Yes. I had a buddy who used to make runs back to Indiana, and would bring back cases of Hamm's and Old Style for us to drink. $3.05 with tax for a six pack of PBR at the H.E.B. God Bless Texas.

To answer your initial question, if you go to New Belgium Brewing Co's homepage, you can find more about this weekend's events. I've never been to one of these before, has anyone else?

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, Old Style. My high school's beer of choice back in Iowa. I would much rather have a nice cold Leinie's though than a cold Point. If you do happen to run across some Hamms or Old Style this weekend, have one for me since I will be in Phoenix(not riding) and unable to join the festivities.

It's 6 bucks to ride RHR every day...for a mere 4 bucks more you can join in on the fun and possible score some fat tire schwag. It's going to Tx Bike Coalition...the guys who stopped that dumbass no group rides on farm roads crap last year...and the yellow bike project. Sounds like fun to me :D

Lived in Chicago for 28 years, growing up I thought all bars were called "Old Style" 'cause that was the only sign you ever saw ;)

Those two groups are great folks to give money to, so I guess I'll go out there and thow a few bucks their way 'cause they've done their part.

Not only does it look like every bar is named Old Style, but every 2 blocks there's a GOOD pizza place, not this corporate chain store bland stuff they have down here. Thank the good lord for Mangia's pizza and Lucky Dog for an Italian beef and the best cheese fries, next to Ricobene's back in Chicago.

1. Have you tried Conan's Pizza? I think there are still a few around town.

2. Down here we have GOOD Mexican food places every two blocks. :D The best re-fuel food made! That and beer.

I wouldn't call what is down here "Mexican" food, I'd say it's more Tex-Mex, which is still perfectly good and I agree is a great re-fuel food when combined with an ice cold Fat Tire or Negra Modelo. Have you tried an Italian beef at Lucky dog with mozzerella and hot peppers, and a side order of cheese fries though? Only drawback there is no beeeeer. Mmmmmmm so hungry now, wish I could get away from my desk to ride, eat, and drink a beer!!!

Those are pretty good...I don't do hot dogs, but the other stuff rocks. Took me a while to get up the nerve to eat there 'cause I was getting it confused w/street vendors by the same name. Down in the French Quarter, Lucky Dog's are these push carts that are usually operated by people you don't really want touchin' your food  kinda the same folks you see sleepin' in the alleys down there. I couldn't figure out why people were raving about hot dogs served on the street by bums...duh

As far as Mexican food, yeah, there are more Tex-Mex places than traditional. But i know of three good more traditional: Taqueria Los Altos on I-35, Rancho Grande at N. Lamar and Anderson, and Taqueria La Tapatia on Ben White (2 locations.) Check 'em out.

Lucky Dog has some great eats. I'm an Italian sausage kinda guy myself. As far as beer goes, ask them if you can BYO. Freebirds will let you bring and drink your own poison no problemo. I'll be there tonight post GB ride eating a steak burrito on a cayanne tortilla with loads of death sauce and drinkin' some cold ones. :D

Any idea on how many riders will be there?

OK, so now that we have moved from the beer tangent to the food tangent, the BEST burrito, hands down is La Pasadita at Ashland and Division (near west side) in Chicago. Definitely a "daylight run", been there after dark and it can get real dicey real quick.

It's as big as a baby's arm and full of cilantro, steak and cheese, no fillers. Mmmmmm.

Back on to biking, looks like a little rain for this weekend, so definitely some fun at the ranch!

.....

Rocky Hill was a lot of fun today. The slow race was rather entertaining. Good to meet a few of the SA Mojos too.

Did anyone who went today get to see the jump demo?

I didn't see the demo but as I was coming off the trail and heading for the beer tent I saw a guy come off one of the jump hills and was about 10-12 feet in the air (or so it seemed). I was so amazed at this guy that I nearly toppled in a rut because I wasn't watching where I was going. Nothing really impresses 'em like flipping on flat ground while they're soaring over you. ;) Oh well.

It's really funny you say that. I stopped to check out the guys on the dirt jumps, and I fell over cause I couldn't clip out.

Did you see the guys racing the little runt bikes before the ghost ride and paperboy challenge started? One of those guys was me! I also participated in the other two events, but I missed the rim toss.

The slow race was the only event I saw, as I ended up riding in the middle of the afternoon. I did see a lot of people on those runt bikes all over the place. The retro cruisers that they gave away were pretty sweet. I was kinda close on the second #!

Man....racing 50 yds on those runt bikes a few times had me huffing and puffing worse than going up fat chucks ;) seemed like everyone was just sittin' around 'til the Monkeys started having runt bike races...then the crowd just seemed to get into it.

the bike games were a blast, got a strike on the ghost ride :) totally sucked at the paperboy toss:rolleyes: , scored a t-shirt from the slow race, then got a second one from the schwag raffle. Congrats to all the Fat Tire Cruiser winners!!!

The guys from Fat Tire were pretty cool, we had a blast with 'em on the night ride. It was a shame everyone wussed out Friday night 'cause of the bogus weather scare. only 10 people did the night ride :( but we had an awesome ride and it never rained at drop :D That was the best camping weather I've had all year :)
