I rode the Tuesday Nighter in Austin for the first time tonight:

Great ride/race
Three nine-mile laps, big pack of over 40 riders at the start in the B group, some climbs but nothing brutal and wicked fast descents. My goal was to finish at least two laps with the lead pack, but by hanging in the draft I was able to finish with the top ten riders. Average speed: 24.6 mph.
Highly recommended, but you need to be used to riding in a pack

Anybody up there going this week - the B pack got blown apart early last week, resulting in much bitching and moaning on the txbra board,
I'll be on the yellow Ritchey

Thats a classic move that has been going on for years , seems there is always a few who go hard on the first inline, they should be in the A group, but are too scared or cheri picking.
You can't even sit in a say hey to a bud or two without chasing down people right away.
I say fuck it and just go with the A group

Take I35 South to Wm. Cannon. East on Wm. Cannon to Salt Springs. right on Salt Springs to Thaxton. Left on Thaxton and park on North side of street. A's roll out at 6, B's at 6:05.
Hey Crusty, what was the avg. speed this last Tues. for A's. For B's I had 23. something. Tues. before last when it was real windy, the A group was huge and the B's only had about 15 riders. Is that because everyone anticipated the B's being "blown" apart?

I don't use a speedo on my bikes very often, if you can hang with the B's and have decent pack skills you should do ok with the A's most of the time, and if you blow up the B's will be rolling a long soon to jump into.
The reasons people go with the A's is varied, if its windy its good to be in a big group.
