View Full Version : Fixing tubeless flats

Got my first flat on my rear wheel yesterday. Must have picked up a thorn or a really sharp rock or a small nuclear warhead or something. Since I hadn't had any experience with this before (tubeless, not flats :) ) I struggled with it, finally unmounting it, applying a patch and then trying to re-inflate it (unsuccessfully). I ended up walking home and checking the manual on how to deal with these babies.

One question remains: what is the best way to repair a puncture on these tires. The patch I applied didn't hold, and a friendly rider who helped me out said I'd need an automotive type patch. The instruction sheet was pretty vague, so I'm turning to the experts for some good advice.

I eagerly await your wise counsel.

you rip (carefully remove) the stem from the rim and incert a tube. i've heard of some tubeless riders using something like liquid latex kind of like slime for tubeless.

Debbie probably has the best idea, or you can try this link.

carry a tube , or put some slime your tire, a patch does not always work, if you can find the kind for cars that have a vulcanise patch ( it burns to stick it) they do the best.

I would allways carry a tube, unless you like walking.

Thanks Debbie, Cosa and Crusty. I will definitely be packing a tube in the future. The web page Cosa referred me to was exactly what I was looking for as to how to get back to being tubeless - though a quart of the carcinogenic substance required to make it work should last a lifetime.

NP, I believe I saw some of the Stan's Notubes at University Cycle, but I'm not positive.
