So what is up with racing on dirt these days? I remember the first Fat Tire Journal TV show with Bob Roll and like som hottie mtb chic(J.Furtado?). Fun racing on the dirt, goofy people riding goofy bikes, beer drinkin' between & after, and not the so," I can kick your ass because my bike is lighter and only ride my mountain bike on race day"..but people who live for the epic dirt ride, train on the dirt, and eat, sleep, and have nice dreams about how kick ass the ride was..Not so competitive, but more like a brotherhood with friendly rivals amongst other like minded mountain bikers who are their for the same reasons. So if Cameron Park can be "rented" for a race, event, whatever, and have trails blocked off, and people saying hey-"you better watch out for those speedy gram counting racer people, who will blast past you on a not very exciting new trail" why can't the real bretheren have a race that suits their riding style, a little fast, a break here and there for a b/s session and maybe a stupid human trick or something like standing on one leg and patting your head and rubbing your tummy kind of thing someweekend never? I am sure that this is what a good majority of the dirtheads that have said f* racing would like and be willing to put up their hard earned $ for fun in CP, and maybe my peeps could "rent" a park too:whatever:

Talk to the waco parks people, and all the officials, and I for one will stay out out of courtesy to you, and your events rather than just crashing in and being a pain in the ass...

So we were a pain in your ass??? edit - you're not worth a pissing match. I'll chalk it up to childhood.

Sorry... no offense ment, I can be an ass, but most of the time its unintended, it was just frustrating today having to explain to the masses of people why they couldn't go off in the trails and smoke or do whatever other vices they wish for the few hours we were there, or running into people on the trails going full out... plus im just plain tired and grumpy from doing back to back races one of which on my single speed... I'm sorry for being a prick, i don't wish to alienate anyone with the same passions, and I hope one day I could meet you out there and ride, anyone that can take all the routes off of lovers leep should be a friend in my book anyways... and hey, its hip to be square  yeah i know im a dork... oh well...
Cool - TC - I'm too big a puss for Thor lately, but the rest are cool. I can imagine there were folks swarming everywhere. It was beeeyoooteeefulll out today.

crashing your race, being an ass? wtf?} dude, don't get your pantys in a ruffle....so I guess that you don't like people coming to your events. I was their to ride, not to race, and glad that I didn't try to.

no... again... misunderstanding... reports of little grannies walking on the trails almost getting hit by people are what im talking about... bad times...

Yeah, our school pretty much cleaned up taking just about all the cats except women's A, and Mr. Googe spanked everyone in Men's A which was fun to watch... I feel almost like I cheated though becasue we knew the trails too well. Oh well Texas State can do the same to us at confrence :) We should have had an open cat for everyone else... i don't know why we didn't... maybe next time...

Tinn-Can,
You guys put on an awesome race. It's been 4 yrs since I've ridden there and I had a blast. You two Baylor guys in the B group are really strong riders. I was trying to run a strong pace on that first lap with you both but I ended up popping about half way up that last stair-stepped climb. I'd be pretty stoked if I was you, having two good races like that.

PS. I made sure to thank all the people (non-racers) I passed for yeilding the trail, and I gave them fair warning of the rest of the guys behind.

I agree with having an open Cat. It sucks to show up at the park on such a nice day and be told there's a race going on you can't come in. Hopefully next time we can have an open category I think we'd get a fair number of people in it.
I don't feel like these races are all "I'm gonna kill you because my bike weighs 21.356 pounds!" Alot of us racing already know each other since the same people show up at every race. The races where we camp out the night before are nice because we all just hang out and the next morning we're not trying to kill each other. I enjoy racing for fun. I even love the fact that the winners from this weekend took home a $4.00 #1 foam finger, 2nd place got a 6-pack of DP, and 3rd got a gallon of sweet tea. I will say though after racing the UCI race here that there definitly exists some of that "I'm gonna kick your ass because my bike rules" mentality. I was getting dirty looks being the only one on the start line not running crossmax wheels and full xtr. But those races bring in bikers from all over the country which I guess makes it that competitive.
Well I'm talking too much but thanks to everyone for letting us put on the race and taking up several of the trails. I know it sucks because it was such a nice day. Maybe we should have like a bike-fest or some weekend where everyone just shows up, grills food, does some big group rides and stupid pet-tricks (I'm good at the one where you jump off your bike and land on your face).

maybe ya'll got me wrong,
in response to the way that Baylor Biker told us stay off the trails beacause of speedy racers, and that we can't ride because the trails are "rented" kinda pissed me off, I guess that he forgot that there are a plethora of other trails that are not being raced on, and that is a park for all. I like racing, and always have, and meeting new people of the same like mind. It would be cool to have a different type of race in CP. What I am getting at is that when a race is going on, let everyone know that, maybe even what trails they are being run on so that the rest of the guys/gals who don't want to race can still ride, and be cool about it, don't just come out and say that whoever is not racing can't ride. I am not here to crash a race, or be an ass as tin-cann put it, which is bs. I am here to ride my bike like everyone else. And Googe, your a badass mofo rider on any bike, and you could have ridden your ss and still kicked ass, I enjoyed riding with you.

Acctually I did tell a bunch of people other trails that we wern't using, and how exactly to safely get to them... I was just trying to be nice and say watch out when you are riding becasue there were going to be a bunch of people going through the trails not expecting somone else to be there... I guess I was just a little paranoid, but then carting people off in an ambulance wouldnt be the way i would like to have remembered this weekend. And if memory serves me right they "rented" the trails for the NORBA race too, and I didn't hear as much crap about that...

CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? :p
I mean look at what we have in common:
1) we all love bikes
2) we all love cameron park
.... isnt that plenty???
Thanks to all for your understanding while we showed off waco's sweet park to the texas collegiate riders. They were very impressed.
You can look forward to seeing us host another event in the fall, and I can assure you we'll try to have open classes!

I personally don't think that there should be any races in public parks.

I don't think that this has anything to do with their being an "open" class for riders who attend schools that are not affiliated with the ncaa. This has to do with the way that we were approached on a post as to not be riding in the park b/c of the race.
