I have not been training a whole lot, but looking forward to it.
have done a few dirty du's this year, but really like swimming.

is that a euphamism for something?
i don't think you need one for this race supposed to be 70 degrees.

I've heard most often compared to bcgb, keep in mind that they're running it backwards for the tri - it won't flow as well as it usually does.

are you doing the race?
should be interesting to see the turnout, tri types vs. mt. bike types etc.

I'm doing it. I don't swim very well, though. Should be fun.

thats a great attitude and is what makes multisports fun. i usually get passed on the run by people i passed on the bike.
i used to be horrible at swimming. only could swim a lap of freestyle and then have to go back to breast stroke. its one sport you can do at a ripe old age.
maybe i'll see you out there, i'll be sporting my Team TopRope shirt. (orange cannondale bike) and probably sucking some wind.

I haven't figured out what I'm wearing. I want to wear a bike jersey, but don't want to swim in it, and trying to put one on when wet sucks. I've got one of the sleeveless tri jerseys, but the rear pockets are small small as to be useless for riding.
I'll be on a blue hammerhead, though. Sucking wind (and hopefully not too much water).
Kyle, go topless. It's just easier that way. :) It'll keep you from having drag in the water and raw nipples from the run. Good luck dood!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to use a wetsuit in the swim, even if it disqualifies me from the awards. I know I'm going to use one in my 1/2 IM in July, and I need some experience getting out of it in T1. I also like the fact that it makes me float so I don't feel like I'm going to drown.

the cold water is nice if you are swimming hard. i have not swum in a wetsuit.
are you doing the buffalo springs half? I heard it is burly.

How'd it go?
I learned today that socks are important. I normally run in socks, but went sockless for the Rookie tri a couple of weeks ago and decided to do the same today. Big mistake. The dirt, combined with off camber trail runs and sliding shoes just shredded my feet. I was running in 2nd place in my age group until I just could run anymore. Legs felt fine, but the pain from the blisters and raw spots was too much. I ended up hobbling the last 3 miles or so, and finished 4 in my age group.
Trail ride was good. I don't remember the trail being quite so rough, but I haven't spent a lot of time on my MTB recently, either - so it may just be perception.
I was a bit disappointed at the turnout. It was a cool event and very well run as are all of Jon Hill's events. I don't know why more people don't come out to these and Dirty Du's.
Now to go soak my feet....

Hey Teknical,
good to "meet" you on the bike, after I saw you, i didnt see you again so you must have really been pretty well. sorry to hear about the feet. I usually run in my biking socks, which aren't as good as my thorlos, but better than bare feet.
on the first lap of the bike, i smacked the shit out of my head and face on a low hanging branch that was all taped up, i never saw it. i was riding pretty sloppy after that and laid my bike down a few more times, but just wanted to finish the race. The run was hot, but it was pretty nice through the woods.
I agree that this was a good event and will probably do it next year.

Geezo - the line when going the other way (they rode the trail in reverse for the tri) is on the other side where the branch is about 12" farther up - and you have a much better view of it coming toward you.
