I'm putting on my new shifter housing but my old housing end caps are too small for the housing. Is this right? Do I have to get a new set of end caps? How early do shops open? Doh?

you purchased 5 mm housing? you'll also need to get 5 mm feruules. they are nickle plated brass.
also, as a side not, never reuse old ferrules. it won't cause the bike to blow up but......well....i don't have a really good answer other than, and anal retentive will smell them. hehehe

yeah, just tell them you have 5 mm housing.

i guess i did get 5 mm housing. i figured 4 mm was the standard so... anyhow, you did mention the 5 mm stuff but i figured 4 mm was the standard so...

4mm is what comes stock.

but 5 is more stout and less prone to blow outs.
