Are you getting tired of watching Raising Helen (http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126878)?

You tell me, or show me what a skinny is and I'll try to build it.

Also, props to you Wumpus as I often use your trail condition forums to find downed trees etc. It is a real help as it enables us to go straight to the problem because we can't cover the whole trail system everyday. . . keep up the good work.

A little bit bigger than I had in mind, but you can get an idea. Skinnies range in size from 2X4's on up. I think they use 2X8's and railroad ties at Tyler.

looks like a great idea: I want to get together and talk about doing something like that. It looks a lot cheaper and easier than manufacturing bridges.

Just make sure you find a way to keep the horses off of them we have some in East Tenn and they get pretty torn up by horses using the trail. It'd be cool to have a little place with a see-saw and some fun little technical things somewhere in the park too.

hey wumpus, lets see if we can get the group together (maybe a Saturday) but when we can all be there and look at putting in some skinnies, and I have a few other areas we need to get some ideas on.

A see-saw would be awesome!!!!

That rut on Cali is getting bad. This might be a solution.

Man, what a repair job! Looking forward to getting together with you guys and fixing that rut: should put cal. in good shape. We can also look at the areas to add some other fun.

Anyway y'all could take out the cedar tree(looks dead) on Colorado in the rerouted corner, where that root was right before you dropped into the chute. I ended up in the ditch trying to dodge it. :endo:

Log on Cali.

Bummer people can't just ride over things and instead have to blaze new trail.

Sorry, I've been on vacation and the re-route is all me, but done with good intentions (not to make anyone fall or to keep people from riding over things). I guess we learn from trial and error and I will put the trail back to it's orginial Friday when I get back to work. The idea was to give the trail a little more of the bob-sled affect that the ravine has in the middle which is absent at the beginning and ending (which is what I thought people liked about the ravine). Again, I apologize.

Darn it. I liked the reroute. It was just the one little tree that messes up the flow and really causes you to slam on the brakes.

OK, I'll check the tree. Let me know after that (I most likely move it Friday morning) how it flows. Thanks for the feed back it helps me know what's going on with flow issues.

You don't have to slam on the brakes. You can just slam into the tree.

*I would love to see the tree gone.

The root drop going to mix master is getting washed out. Suggestions included cutting it out. I would like to keep it and maybe armor it with some rock. Be glad to help.

Log is back on Cali. New rollover on Johnie. http://www.fh-trier.de/~gielj/smilies/thumb_yello.gif Top of Colorado was returned to original. It would be neat to berm up the very bottom portion.

Don't know if I will be the first one to get to the root. I was out of town today and we heard someone broke a leg last night coming off the root ( it was a beginner and apparently lost control after crossing and grabbed front brakes) so another ranger may have already taken it out today if not I would be glad to have you help me with it; also it is not us moving the log roll over at the top of Cal. 56, we left a spot were people can go around if they choose not to take the log so any time you guys see it moved feel free to replace it.

Yeah, I rolled up on that last night. Apparently he made the drop, but washed out in the gravel and headed off the trail. Grabbed the front brake and launched into the stump at the the bottom of the trail. One contributing factor may be is that he is running super narrow bars(18" or so).

I agree on the handle bars. The root has been removed (rode it tonight) but I think it can be easily rebuilt. I think we can use a cedar timber or ballard post long enough to extend and anchor into the berm, then shore it in with your rock idea and pack in the dirt. Just look at it next time you ride; you may have a better idea but I'm sure we can replace it and make it better.

and on the tree on colorado, I moved the wrong tree (thought it was the one laying on the ground) but after I rode it became very apparent which tree. We got the right one this time.

Hey! That's Ed, half owner in Trail Dynamics. I worked with these guys, Ed and Woody Keene, in Dupont S.F. in N.C. learning how to run machines to build trail. He's on a Toro Dingo TX 420, if I'm right. We didn't get to build any Appalachian Armoring, but I know the concept.
