Great night ride. It sure was nice to find out that it was just the heat and not me being out of shape that had slowed me down lately on the daytime rides. Damn, it was nice out there at night. Spin, spin, spin. Only drank about a liter and a half while riding. Lately I've been refilling at Water 2, drinking about five liters on the same lap in the daytime (and stopping often just to cool down).
Unfortunately, we saw no lions, tigers, bears, snakes, pigs, bats or chupacabras to corroborate Boomer's sightings of a week ago. I think it was the purple jersey with white polka-dots he was wearing that scared all the little woodland creatures into hiding.
We rode Miracle Mile backwards to the 6-mile bailout, then got on Off the Lip and rode Frontal and Bottle on to Water 2. We took Longhorn, bailed at the 9-mile and Boomer headed in. We then went right to Avenue of the Pines and picked up TrisCross to the 12-mile bail, then returned on home via Miracle Mile, Hard Boil, Mini-Me, Ike's Peak/Gray's Way (backwards), through the gate and back to the Trail-head (that's the port-o-potty under the trees, right???).
At one point I thought I heard Bikopelli playing his flute in the distance, and later, laughing at another time during the ride. Boomer was still with us then, so he isn't Bikopelli after all.
There were some spiders. Okay, more than some. Boomer dissappeared about halfway through the ride (I guess he'd eaten enough), and we thought he would be clearing the trails of spiders, but noooooo, I must presume he was up to something else. Perhaps working up a spider cookbook or throwing together a spider appetizer plate for himself.
Even though we returned to the Saloon about 11:00, they were kind enough to throw together some food for us. Kudos to Pam and Winston for taking care of us. Boomer didn't eat, which may be due to his new high-arachnid diet.
Thanks for calling the ride Boomer!! It was a pleasant change to the heat of the day. Let's do it again!!
