any weekend before it gets blazing hot, or early in the AM when it does get blazin hot.

After that first half mile, you're drenched in sweat and the evaporation helps keep you cool. Just don't stop--take "rolling breaks". By the time you get to Water 1, you're warmed up and ready to go. And when its brutal hot--you mostly have the place to yourself except for the racing lizards. They like the heat.
