Been several years for me now since I have been to BCR, but I got out there today and had a great time. This time, however, it was with my 8-year old daughter, who has just taken to mountain biking like I take to just about any food. :)
Anyhow...we put in 7-8 miles before her (okay, my) legs finally gave out, and Kiara was just dynamite. She completed nearly every descent out there and at least part of each of the uphills. Best of all, she challenges herself physically and psychologically the whole way through instead of just wimping out at everything that looks a little tough. I tell ya, there's nothing quite like seeing your own flesh-n-blood cranking her way through these trails and letting out little "woops" of joy as she clears each tough obstacle. Hard to believe she was once an infant.
We shared a burger and tots back at the house and then talked about the ride all the way back to Cedar Park. That's a good day.
Now to see how long it takes her little sister (2 1/2 years younger) to catch up. The little one is absolutely dying to be part of this some day. She's already doing really really simple stuff at Walnut Creek on her little girl bike, with Kiara's old 20" bike waiting in the wings for her once she's big enough.
Cheers,
Mark
