Hot, trails are good, still no burgers :(

Just went for the 1st time yesterday. It was very hot, and thost last few miles sure did take a while! You could taste the dust, and the sand seemed unforgiving, but it was well worth it.

Still no burgers, no water, no showers... But there's water at the water stops.

Afterwards went into town and grabbed a burger at the Caboose. Probably not as good, but the A/C was on, and the ice tea cold.

For sure we'll plan another trip for the fall when its a tad cooler.

The trails have water at the stations, but there's no water at the parking lot. At least this was the case last weekend.

They were hoping the water would be turned back on soon, so maybe that's changed?

Water has been turned back on, power has not. Still trying to get the land owner to take care of this problem. Have set up water hose behind white trailer close to Boomers for those who want to rinse off and avoid the saloon altogether. We are really sorry about the current situation, but our hands are tied.:o Still no burgers though, so if you plan on coming, bring your own food and drink or there are some decent eateries close by.

For an impromptu shower, I also find that the hose connected to the RV spot at the bike wash - near the trees - works great.

Everybody just has to ignore you when you get nekkid though.

For those that get down this way during the week, Sherry, former cook at RHR, has a Sherry's Kitchen in Smithville and serves the same burger she used to make at RHR, among other goodies. Unfortunately she is closed on weekends.:(

To find her place from RHR, go into Smithville and through the light just past Brookshire Bros. grocery store and take the next left. Then look for her place on the right about two and a half blocks down, behind Huebels beer joint. (YES! Cold beer and great burgers!:D )

Sherry will be at RHR, catering food for the Chainring Masacre and serving up those famous burgers for the event, and plans to be there til midnight or later.:eek:
