For you fellow denizens of the south side or downtown commuters, my co-workers and I regularly ride the Mission Trail from our office downtown (St. Mary's and Market) to Mission Espada and back (round trip is around 25 miles) at least two times a week (more now, if the trails are too muddy to ride offroad), usually Mondays, Wednesdays and some Tuesdays.

We usually meet around 6:30-7:00pm and head out by 7:15. Departure time is always very flexible, depending on who all is showing up. Also who shows up dictates the pace and whether we take our road or mountain bikes. We are usually finished by 10:00pm, sooner if we hammer on road bikes, later if we decide to follow-up with an urban assault of downtown on our mountain bikes. Sometimes we'll even start at McCullough and Hildebrand to add miles to the route.

Since most of the route is a dedicated, paved path, not everyone needs lights (there are always enough of us with them) but they are recommended.

My only suggestion is to take your beefier tires and wheelsets. While the route is in pretty good shape, there are a couple of areas where I wouldn't want to roll a set of Kyseriums over. Also, trail debris likes to find its way into your tire causing flats so tire liners or something equally suitable are always a plus.

If anyone is intersted, feel free to call me at my office at 270-3975 and I'll let you know if we're riding that day or not.
