I'm so excited. nothing like riding along with the whir of a hundred other wheels.
Hey Alan The first day is 15 miles short of a century. Want to get together and ride back 7.5 to clean it up?

Weather was wonderful, the turnout was greater than last year. Somewhere around a thousand riders.

But no Beeville karaoke:mad:

I agree, I don't know which MS150 staffer sold their soul for the great weather, but it was gorgeous. And the FOOD was the best I've had on a ride, yet! The MS150 folks really out-did themselves.

I was thinking for dinner on Saturday we would skip the usual "elementary school cafeteria-quality spaghetti" and head into town. But surprise! Carrabas' grilled chicken, mushrooms and pasta was DAMN tasty. Too bad it wasn't served buffet style- portion size for a 140lb person is NOT the same as for a 260lb-er!

The BBQ ribs served at Sunday's lunch in Corpus were mighty fine too. (OK, Sunday's breakfast was a bit puny but who could eat a lot at 5am with 65 miles ahead of you?).

AND all the milk-changing Oreos at every rest stop! All that was missing was the Crown!

The only down sides were the lack of enough showers at the finish (despite all our attempts to make 'em co-ed) and having to wait an hour for the bike truck to get back to SA. But all in all, the good people at the MS Society down-right spoiled us.

Oh yeah, and Alan kicked mah ass again, despite him being on a mountain bike and I on a roadie.  :p

OK folks, for all you that blow really well, ;) aim south east and push Hurrican Lili away from the Gulf Coast and pray that it follows the path of Isidore.

It would be sweet if another northern cool front would blow through as well and give us a tail wind!

Tailwind.........oh yeah, come on, baby, the Finkster's praying for a backbreeze! Actually, we may just get a light front arrival around Friday. But you're right, George. We damn sure don't want Lili crashing the party. Let's get those positive vibes going!

As always that was a really great ride! I saw a lot of you and got to talk to a few of you. Thanks for riding! Whats the story on the wreck outside of Beeville?

Dave K

Wreck? didn't hear about that. Keith and I finished about 10:30 on Sunday. Scott about 10:15.

Wow Dave y'all were cruising! I hung with my friends with breakaways for the fast fun. We finished after noon sometime. Just outside of Beeville when you get back on the highway there was a rider down, holding his head and stamping his feet in pain. Lot's of ems and police assistance. Traffic was down to one lane. Hope he's o.k.
What was your avg spd?

Dave K

It was a good time. I was actually fairly sore in the legs yesterday. I wasn't really sore at all on Sunday though, even though my perceived exertion and total time on the bike was was higher on Saturday. But I didn't bring a heart monitor since it was a fun ride. I had a massage on Sat. PM, but none on Sunday, so that seems to indicate that those things really do work.

Average speed? I guess that would come out to 18+ on Saturday and 20.5 on Sunday.

Older guy (don't know his name) endo'd over another rider (female).... I got there just after it happened. The woman was OK, just a bunch of abrasions from kissing the road. The guy was banged up pretty good. He was a little out of it, definitely had a broken clavicle and might have injured his shoulder as well (best I can give via roadside assessment). The medical crew arrived pretty quickly and took over from there. EMS was called, but hadn't arrived yet when I left the accident. I heard later that the guy was pretty upset that he couldn't finish the ride.... sucks:(

I noticed people get really focused on finishing this thing. Like their happiness in life depends on it. I wonder if they would feel differently if they entered some races. I learned real quick there are things out of your control that can keep you from finishing. It happens to the most elite of Pros. Mechanicals, sickness, weather, other riders that crash in front of you, and I guess we can add to that list autos that run you off the road. It's an overused cliche, but it's true: Sh*% happens. Don't sweat it. Live to ride another day.

If you are riding with some frequency, you won't have all your enjoyment eggs in one ride's basket. Nothing's stopping you from going out and having an epic ride every weekend. It's right outside your backdoor.

So true. The MS 150 opened my eyes to the potential of riding so many different routes close to home. Besides, I'll save my epics for when I'm not riding with 1500 cyclists.
