View Full Version : Richard Moyo cross race 1/11/03
OK, I have no friggin idea where to post questions/info pertaining to cross races. Is this mtb-related since it is (1) off road, (2) cross bikes use cantilever brakes and (3) racers often use mtbs? Or is it roadie related because a true cross bike has 700c wheels and only 2 front chainrings?
I have no clue.
Anyway, I am thinking of doing the Moyo cross race on the 11th and was wondering if anyone else out there is going. It would be nice to have a larger field in the Mens B (sport level or so) field. Racing against only 2 or 3 others just isn't worth it to me.
I'll post over here also. Just to keep out numbers up. If I do the race Sunday it will be the beginner one of 30 minutes. Do you think it would be a bad idea to use my road bike?

A straight-up road bike may not be the best idea. If you can slap some knobbies on there, you may be ok. If you have time this week, you can head to Moyo park and ride around. The course runs on the grass in some spots, and the gravel in others. If it is raining then road brakes may not have enough road clearance. There are also durability issues. I'm not sure if all pure road bikes is strong enough to handle bumps, etc.
I'm out on a FS mountain bike with semi-slicks. Not the fastest setup, but good enough.
John, you better watch your ass out there.......this guy Kevin (who you raced neck and neck at Huntsville) is doing the B race and he wants revenge!

Yeah, I was egging him on to come out and race cross and Sport with us. I beat him by < 20 seconds at Huntsville, and I only got that gap in the last 1/8th mile. It was a close one. We'll see what happens this weekend.

that's kinda what happend with me and Griz in Huntsville..
He flew by me when I had blown up close to the end.. some guy in the class behind me was whizzing by when I caught on to his back tire..
I saw Griz in my sights... then jumped on his back wheel. Man, it was hard to stay there and where we were at .. it was real hard to pass
I then knew that if I didn't take him on the turns and on that last climb... that was it..
I passed him and I think I only beat him by like 30 seconds.
To me.. this was one of the more challenging races to me. It was pure endurance and not so much techical skills.
and oh yeah.. this isn't considered cross posting IMO because Huntsville is a roadie course.
