anyone interested in going down to NB to ride the GVGP road course? thinking of doing a few laps of the course in preparation for the upcoming race out there.

FYI, info on the race can be found at:

cool, but only if you change that "goes-flat-on-every-ride" tire.

You mean we're not going to do the bakery ride death march again this Sunday? My legs are just starting to feel normal again...

I'm interested if I can make the time. When are you planning on heading out?

I'm fairly flexible on ride time, but I would prefer to leave pretty early and try and be done between 11am and 1pm. with that in mind, perhaps leave Austin around 8ish (or 9ish if everyone is craving a little extra sleep).

is fine with me..
Griz.. are you showing the love?? or have you stopped that now?

I don't know how I am going to get faster than you guys if I keep bringing you on all my training rides!

Have you checked the confirmed riders list for Cat 5:

http://www.bikereg.com/races/ConfList.asp?ID=592

Tough field. I recognize a couple of expert mtnbikers there, including the guy (Paul Ray - posts as 'Tioga' here) that won my age group's state championship last spring. Could be painful.

We'll have to organize a 'Team Mojo' and get a couple of you stronger guys to the front...

I thought that name looked familiar.
Team Mojo..
Sounds good to me.
or... if possibly Satan would like to have his name sponsored out there. ( HammerHead )

That could be a possibility.

I'd be interested in going out, assuming it does not interfere with Elena's move. Not sure what time she is moving, but I have volunteered my time if she needs it.

I've been dropped the two times I've ridden with you. I'm hoping the shorter distance/time will at least let me stay in the pack. I gotta ramp up my training....

well, I just threw my hat into the ring.....registered online.

so now we need to figure out a strategy for working together with people we know (i.e. mojos). I think Raycer-X is doing the race and Tobin Behling (I don't know him) is also registered. that makes 4 mojos. then if john_curtis and mason (not a mojo) decide to go out an race, we could have a nice little 5-6 man team that could work together and keep us up front.

Griz

to be completely honest, I just want to stay on my bike. I'm deathly afraid of a wicked road pile-up.

TechniKal

Agreed. I don't want to experince road rash. Guess we need to start fast and stay out front, eh?

As far as teams - I don't think we can have an 'official' team. Apparently in road racing, 'teams' have to sponsor a race, be registered, etc. We can have an informal team and all work together, though.

My goal for this race is to just see what it's all about. If I like it, then I'll worry about how to get better at it.

Griz

yeah, as far as 'team' goes, I guess thats what I meant. but I'm with you as far as figuring this whole thing out. survive the first one and then figure out how to do it well.

actually, thats how mountain bike racing was for me when I first started. had no idea about training or anything. just went out there like an idiot. but I liked it so much that it became worth it to train, develop strategy, etc....

are we going out there or what guys?

Griz
01-09-2003, 11:44 AM
yes, definitely. I say we leave Austin some time between 8 and 9 am on Sunday morning. we could meet up somewhere, carpool...whatever. 8-mile course, it would be nice to go turn 3-4 laps.

I guess I'll call Stealth Quintana and see if he is up for it.

I say we meet at 8 am. I can drive and take 1 more. We can meet somewhere south near I-35.

Griz
01-10-2003, 10:12 AM

Kyle -- are you able to make this?

John_C -- tell Elena you'll help her when you get back from this ride!!!

I'm going to have to pass - can't swing the time to make the trip this weekend.

Let me know what the course is like. I'm hoping to be able to head down the Saturday before the race, pre-ride then, and stay somewhere near there for the night...

Griz
01-10-2003, 12:12 PM
ok. however my new modified plan is to bag the preride on Sunday if the weather is really crappy. Instead I'll just ride somewhere on the road in town.

if you guys don't mind i know a couple of guys and myself that are going to ride this sunday maybe we could meet at the start of the course.

Griz

tioga-

I'm heading out there with a couple of guys from Austin. Actually, I'll see you tomorrow at the cx race and we can put together a plan there. I'll be on a green IF and an Ozone jersey. If for some reason we don't connect, my cell # is 512-771-9998.

Raycer-X is now committed! now we need to get out to the course. tomorrow's weather is looking pretty dismal. I guess we'll play it by ear.........maybe just do an in-town ride and go pre-ride the course next weekend.

Chris aka Killer

Did you guys ever make it out to preride?

I rode it Wed, it was pretty much like Rob Describes it. Flat for the first 2/3s then 4 decent climbs, with the finish at the top of a climb.

Should be a good Field. Watch out for Tioga's teammates J. Harvey and Steve Waters. Both are strong on the road.
