Theoretically, if I am in the country, I could be in for this. I have been working too hard lately and I missed the bulk of mojofest.
We're about a month out folks.
I've been pretty busy with school and family duties, but the FatBob family is very much looking forward to a few days of R&R @ FRR.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's official folks, mark your calendars!
Special thanks to Jimmy & Terri Dreiss for providing a great venue not to mention a significant Mojo discount for a full weekend of camping. $10/family for the whole weekend Friday morning to Monday morning. Singles will be $6 for the same weekend.
When: Columbus weekend October 9,10,11,12
Where: Flat Rock Ranch, Comfort, TX
What: 1st (possibly annual) Bike Mojo Family weekend @ FRR
Why: because Karissa said so... and it's a great opportunity for our cycling significant other(s) to meet & greet while the sprockets play in the dirt, ride bikes and throw rocks at each other.
This is a family focused weekend, but not limited to just families. Bring your girlfriend or boyfriend for a weekend of riding, hiking, and camping.
For the parents, the idea is to have at least two rides per day. Dad rides while Mom hangs with the kiddo and vice versa.
For the kiddo's there's a ten and under trail 2 miles long and the "no sweat family loop" which is 4.5 miles. Maybe a moon bounce, I think Ed is handling this
Jimmy tells me we can watch the bat flight at the old rail road tunnel 13 miles away in the evening.
For the Wives/Hubbies that don't ride:
There's a new park on the Guadalupe river close by. There are also three wineries in the area.
Food & Spirits: So far it's BYOF/B. I kind of thought Saturday night might be a good Pot Luck night (Burgers, Dogs, grill type food). I might post a second poll for this. If you've organized one of these in the past and have any hints or would like to volunteer to coordinate efforts, PM me.
Plenty of port-a-poties & showers for the whole family.
If I've missed anything, or you can think of anything that should be added or considered let me know.
Theoretically, if I am in the country, I could be in for this. I have been working too hard lately and I missed the bulk of mojofest.

John, it should be a pretty fun, low key weekend. Hope you can make it out.
Hopefully so. And possibly with a new bike if the stars align for me.

Sounds like a blast and you know I'd be there except that the Houston folks and GHORBA are having their 10th Anniversary Celebration up at Lake Lake. I will miss you guys but am hoping for a fall Warda campout soon.

moojo and the herd might be able to make a Sunday PM ride. i'm doing a ro@d ride for boobies on the 10th and momma mooj is taking a "ladies day" (read: wine and massages) on Sunday. i might just come down and hang with my kiddos.
Got a keg coming Saturday night. Have a problem, no tap. Can anyone help me?
I've got a spare and I can loan ya Jimmy. Just need to coordinate conveyance. Though there might be one stored in a big grey vehicle thingy I last saw parked by the sign-in shed.![]()

ADMIN: Please make this thread a sticky
Oy folks, we're about a week out.
Might want to check your camping gear this weekend for any last minute runs to Acadamey/REI/Whole Earth Provisions/etc. Make sure you have spare tubes and all that fun stuff.
No one really gave an opinion one way or the other about doing a pot luck on Saturday, are people thinking that they'd rather just do their own thing? Either way is fine, but a little coordination would be good.
Jimmy & Terri, thank you guys in advance, we often take for granted that we have such gracious hosts, willing to let us use their wonderful land, manage porta potties, and even hook us up with beer.
Remember folks $10 gets you a family camping pass for Columbus weekend, $6 for singles.
If you're familiar with FRR and want to lead one of the group rides either Saturday or Sunday please PM me so we can coordinate.
If you're bringing your kiddo's, don't forget to bring at least one "fun" activity.
Jimmy, what's the word on the Bat viewing? I think this would be a ton of fun for the kids.
The bat flight can start around 7:00 pm or latter depending on how hungry they are.
trying to prepare for this but I have two issues of concern right now. logistics and rain. just traded in our SUV for a shoebox on wheels and I know for certain I couldn't transport 3 bikes, camping gear, ice chests, and such as well as my family. with rain predicted, my wife, who is not a camper, is concerned.
Ed,
I'd be surprised if your SUV had more space inside than your Fit... however if you don't have a roof/hitch/trunk mount bike rack, I can see the spacial issue. Rain wise, I'm in the same boat. The wife is working, which is a drag, but won't stop us from the event. A rainy camping weekend with the kiddo may not be the best first camping experiece for her though.
I didn't think to plan a "rain date". Jimmy would be the better person to ask about weather conditions. Often if it rains in SA, it's dry up his way, so we'll let the weather decision rest on our gracious hosts.
yah, no external rack. the fit is nearly as tall, inside, as the Escape but doesn't have as long of a cargo area with the seats up (or down for that matter).
Bump.....
Midway there folks. My wife will be working Saturday & Sunday so just the rat & me.
