Hi!
I was wondering whether anyone rode out there recently and can give an update on the trail condition. I was planning on riding RHR this Sunday. Too muddy or OK?
Hmmm, the forecast shows a 80% chance of rain for Smithville for Saturday...
Thanks,
-BB
Called R.B. last night and the first mile in and out were supposed to be a bit muddy but the rest was supposed to be good. Sounded good. So we went and after that first mile that had its muddy spots, the rain started pouring on us (basically one we reached waterstop #1) for the rest of the trail.
I just hope that the trail can dry quickly enough before the race is on on Saturday...

the red clay was not a problem yesterday, some water in the creeks but not real bad. Some tree's down , but I got a lot of them moved. Otherwise, by saturday the trails will be great, with some spashing through the creeks. Scott and Tristan will be out marking and cleaning up trails all day today, friday.

How are the trails ?
Did you get any rain out there this week ?
I was hoping to ride there this weekend.
I road most everything wednesday, lots of water in the streams. Red clay was ok. We got about half inch of rain yesterday, thursday. Nothing last night, the sun is out now , I would think it should be good to ride this weekend. There will be water in the streams and some wet parts on the trails.
I'm going to ride them later today , will post again tonight.

the trails are getting better, a little less water, clay is good, omars and way back still need a few more days to dry and drain.

i was out there this morning, and it still seemed pretty wet to me. only one water crossing was "uncrossable" though. part way down "off the lip". too deep too muddy too early into the ride to try on a 40 deg morning. ended up turning around and backtracking to the fireroad to jump on longhorn loop. rode everything but omar's howl. climbed up to west fenceline hoping it would be drier than avenue of the pines. WRONG! it's got lots of drainage from the neighboring hillsides and lots of down trees too. most everything else is rideable, but trails are pretty chewed up from the rain in spots. saw lots of riders out as i was finishing. hopefully enough to get the trail back in shape!
"Flow the downhills,
Cruise the flats,
Attack the climbs!"
I worked on that section later in the afternoon and got a good bit of that log jam to drain some. Still some water but its about half of what it was. On Omars I cut a hike a bike around that small and getting smaller lake before the bridge. Mike is going to try and finish the bridge rebuild later this week.

The bridge is done on Omars, the creeks are drying up. The trails are as good as you will find them in a long time, thats the full 21, so come on out this weekend and race or volunteer.
thanks

We rode on Sunday and I have to admit...the trails were in the best shape I've seen them in YEARS! The conditions reminded me of when we rode them 7-8 years ago. There was mud in some sections, but not the nasty peanut-butter stuff you'll find in the first few/last miles of the course. There were also creek-crossings, but NONE that were un-rideable. No one in our group had to stop to clean a bike in order to keep riding. We just splashed through and kept going!
Nice work, Paul! "Almost" makes me wish I were racing this weekend. Ok, not really. ;-)

I don't suppose we would be able to ride at noon. Sounds like a great ride for Sunday.
Thanks,

I imagine conditions must be good for Sunday?

After that rain on sunday afternoon I was afriad all the hard work would be washed away. But I rode the full 21 miles loop wednesday and it was great. The new bridge/great. The red clay not to bad.
