I'm wit you boyz. Just grabbed my membership. Great idea; glad to contribute... now if I could only find a dry spot to ride on!
Maybe I over-reacted to the fact that aLaN has been carrying us for several years and then we agree to help, but throw grenades with the other hand. I vented and now done with it.Originally posted by TechniKal
I signed up as non-recurring for a couple of reasons. First, I don't have a credit card - the draw would come directly from my checking account. I will not give anyone other than my wife and myself the right to draw out of my checking account without my explicit approval. Secondly, the charge is not coming directly from Mojo but from a a third party company that I've never heard of. Again, I'm not hot on granting access to someone I don't know. Have you ever tried to cancel a recurring magazine subscription? Ever tried to get a credit when they've accidentally double charged you? Not fun. (I don't expect problems with Mojo, but like I said, the charge is coming from a 3rd party company and I have no idea how much control Admin has over them)
Is it more work for Mojo? Maybe, but then they should expect some extra work to happen when they are offering different levels of access -it's a cost of doing business. I whole-heartedly support Mojo and would have found a way of getting the membership regardless, but not in a recurring manner that's not under my control. Whining? So be it - the new method is much smarter for the consumer and will likely result in more members.
Now get out of the buggy whip days and get a credit card. Soooo convenient, but pay it off (the hard part!!).![]()

I get enough exercise just pushing my luck.
I was just curious why you have to pay taxes? Have you set this up a full-on business? If so, good luck, I have a small business and keeping up with taxes is a bitch! i didn't know Texas has sales tax on web services. Seeing as how i do freelance web work, i better check into that one![]()

PS- thanks for the great forum. Now everyone should go spend another $25 to $40+ on ARR, STORM, IMBA, etc. If you're too poor (as i was for much of my grad school life) just do some trail work with me![]()
Yeah got a small biz with some web stuff added. I have to pay the might comptroller annually. Taxes blow, but at least we don't have a state income tax here.Originally posted by jburatti

I checked with the state and they said that if you have nexus in texas you have to pay taxes on the sales from within the state.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll be okay, as i'm not selling a product in this state and none of my clients are in Texas either. Man, i hate taxes. i have to pay quarterly.![]()

I'm not sure what exactly you mean here, but if you are asking what taxes you have to pay from compensation you receive for doing freelance web work, then yes, you are supposed to be paying taxes on it at the federal level as part of your income tax. Essentially, you are a sole proprieter and should be declaring this income on a Schedule C (profit/loss from you business). In addition, you could also have self-employment taxes owed on this amount, which seems like a double-whammy because its in addition to your personal income tax (if you receive a W2, rest assured that your employer is paying their share of an emplpyment tax based on your wages. But when you are self employed, YOU are ALSO the employer so have to pay that share too).Originally posted by jburatti

If it's some small petty amount below the tax threshhold, then you don't have to worry. And off the record, small amounts over will probably go no where. But if it is a substantial amount and the business that contracted you issues you a 1099-Miscellaneous Income (instead of a W2) statement for the amount, then you can be sure the IRS will look to make sure you filed properly and will want their take.
