    Recovery ideas

I am interested in hearing suggestions regarding recovery after mtn. biking. I have been hearing about Endurox as being a good after ride drink to replenish muscles. Please let me know what is working for any of you out there. Thank you.

I've heard a lot of folks talk about that stuff. It seems like expensive sugar water to me, though. Beer is good, as others have pointed out. Fruit, clif bar, etc - something with some carbs and protien - along with ample fluids shortly after a hard ride seems to help. There's apparently a 'glycogen window' - a period after hard exercise where you're body will more quickly replenish the mucsles. Stuff consumed during that period will do you more good that stuff consumed later.

I'm not a nutrionist or expert class racer or anything like that - so take my opinion for what it's worth - which ain't a lot...

..yep...endurox is pretty chalky, even at 1/2 and 3/4 concentrations...doesn't taste too good either, and i'm not real picky when it comes to that sorta thing...plus, even worse to chug during race pace...50/50 hurl potential.

but, i haven't used it enough to say yea or nay on its recuperative properties (still have 1st jug with about 1/5 remaining)...just couldn't stomach it.
If you make it idiot-proof, nature will make a better idiot.

After a really hard ride, I usually drink lots of gatorade and a big protein plus powerbar. A few beers soon afterwards. I have not tried any of those drink mixes.

Liar. You always go straight for the beer after a hard ride...

OK! You are right! After a long hard race, I usually drink the gatorade and protein bar while trying to recover. After breathing so hard, a beer is the last thing on my mind for that moment. 5 minutes later, those beers taste really good.

I should make a beer flavored version of gatorade. I could retire and buy a bike ranch...

    Wink

No, it's a beer flavored like a Mangia spinach/pepperoni/mushroom deep dish pizza (chicago style)!

I drink a LOT of water, finishing anything in my camelback and then throw something on the grill. Then again, I doubt I have the shape that eveyone is trying to get.
