Man that is a long seat post. For the life of me I don't
understand why anyone would ride with the seat that high.
I understand not wanting it slammed but too high just
looks unsafe and the above picture is the result. That's just
my opinion tho what do I know
For XC riding (or any type of riding where you want to pedal efficiently), proper saddle height is basically a function of leg length. Your saddle should be high enough to get almost full leg extension when the pedal is in the 6 o'clock position. This feels unnatural for people who are used to riding with their seat low and who like to be able to put a foot on the ground while on the saddle. For other types of riding (Dirt jumping, AM to a degree, DH, etc) pedaling efficiency isn't as important. You're often coasting or going down hill, so it's not as big a deal. Being able to maneuver the bike and get off the saddle is more important when doing that kind of riding. Hope that helps...
When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room. It's for fun.
Ok i see that makes sense. Just one more question is
that pretty much the same reason people use the clip
peddles? Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread

Definitely. Clipless pedals dramatically increase pedaling power and efficiency mainly because you can pull on the upstroke as well as push on the downstroke. Of course, in situations where you might need to occasionally get off your bike in a hurry or put a foot down on a corner, being clipped in doesn't make much sense.
