The New New Cedar Park Milburn Pump Track Thread

What happened to the old 'New' thread??

Well the previously mention behind the scenes talk has materialized into what looks like the beginning of actual support.
A load of heavy clay content infield mix has been dropped, and I was told to keep them posted of when we need more. Monday I am walking a parcel of land with the parks director that he said has some serious elevation drop, and we seem to have a tentative commitment from the parks director to attend The IMBA trails building seminar, the one that promotes developing destination worthy trails to promote tourism, community health and economic growth benefits.
Working on getting someone from city management to attend as well.
The parks director said that he wants to build some unique to the area lines and specifically mentioned the amount of elevation drop......, this coupled with the fact that he is wanting to walk this new piece of property to determine feasibility, is willing to attend the IMBA presentation, and has asked to be informed as to when we will need more material for Milburn has renewed my hope in this venture.

This may be a good time to email The City of Cedar Park city manager, and other management staff members with some encouraging words about the desire to continue the city’s development for local biking opportunities, and the health and economic benefits for the local community. Please by intelligent and thoughtful with any correspondance.

I tried for 1pm, but he couldn't make it until 4pm.
Cullen, let me know when works for you, and we will have a mojo walk through whenever. And take our time doing it.
He said it is accessed off of Volente rd.... google earth...

Volente Rd. Is that FM 2769? Where about is it, on the Lime Creek side, Anderson Mill side, or some where in the middle? I would assume the Lime Creek side if it is with the city. Too bad they will not allow trail building through the preserve land in that area, you could make some killer FR/DH trails.

I got to ride some of the old Milburn Ranch in that area with the asst. city manager, Sam Roberts. This was before Twin Creeks was built or Anderson Mill extended. There was the potential for epic riding back there.

You could ride from what was the end of Cypress Creek Road down to the lake. Had my best ever yard sale going down a nice downhill there.

When I volunteered with the very short lived bike trail group that the parks department put together, there was talk of mtb trails. When I signed up for the group, I thought that was what we were doing. Turns out we were signed up to connect neighborhoods to stores or businesses by identifying which roads could support bike traffic.

Count me in as wanting to help.

This prohibition of public use of public can not be accepted as appropriate, and must be dealt with through permanent and sustainable means. It will require effort and $$.
.....and someone that is willing to pick a fight….

and a bunch of people that are willing to finish it.

    Talking

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it does have about 100' of elevation drop from top to bottom, and up to 50' from either side to center. A paved driveway runs about half way up into it from Volente rd at the bottom. A creek runs down the center from the top and meets the end of the driveway. Paved parking to the left of the green roofed building at the bottom of the picture.
48 acres is what I was told.

    other properties were discussed.
I do think that we have a renewed level of support.... we'll see.

I never mentioned gapping the driveway.

Well, it's better than a poke in the eye.

Looks like it has the potential of Toys R Us trail.

Minimal elevation drop + unique + destination worthy enough for tourism, huh? Maybe some FR lines? Specifically, wood features. I anybody's ridden the rebuilt lower section of Mother's Milk at Pajarito, it's a great example of how much stokage you can get in a relatively short drop of elevation. This place is close enough that I'd be in to volunteer.

    Hey guys,
I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Jaron. I have been doing some sideline watching on this forum for the past year or so. I grew up racing dual-slalom back when NORBA was around and relevant in Utah. I moved here two years ago and I am more a roadie and XC rider now. I am a freerider deep in my heart though and any chance I can get to ride some obstacles and jumps you can count me in. I am down to help build some trails and can round up some additional help if needed. I have school during the week and help out at a LBS on weekend. PM me and let me know when you all will be needing help and I will work it around my schedule. I look forward to meeting you all soon as well as getting some awesome trails going we can all be proud of!

    Cheers,
    Jaron

Links up with Milburn pump track really well. Potential for something sweet for sure. It will have to appeal to all levels of rider whatever happens.
Pms will go out to whomever expresses interest in working on this.

    Status update
rode/pushed/hiked my bike all over that place, tracked it on gps. The parks director and I will be going to the IMBA trail building seminar this weekend, Jake is on-board with this project and we will be determining/stoking the city's commitment level. Constructive emails with regard to the positive impact that these types of recreational opportunities offer to the public will help.
The property already has pedestrian traffic and dog walkers... whatever is done will need to be mindful and enjoyable for all current and future users, which shouldn't be a problem.
Thank you to everyone that has pmed interest in helping. The area definitely has potential to be something special and will I hopefully post up more after this weekend.

    Dimitri,

You're doing it right, brother and whatever you build will be around for a long time that way. Doesn't it feel good? You and I know the hard work up front. You'll have plenty of help building, but you'll be largely on your own getting the permissions. Savor every victory. They are hard-earned. Congrats!

I applaud the efforts as we all know the time and work it takes to get anything approved...

I will point out that 9th and Redbox are both the results of "doing it the other way" that Spicewookie screams about.

Hopefully more and more instances such as pflugerville, milburn, PB will occur so that things are sanction/approved and will be more accessible to those not in the know.
