SHOUT OUT: RPR Flow Track

A quick round of props for those working the flow track. Got a chance to go check it last weekend. It was better than I expected. You gotta work (and work hard) to ride it, but there's really nothing else like that around these parts. Great job.

I do wonder if maintenance isn't going to be the Achilles heel of that track, though. It gets hot out there! Maybe the addition of some wood doubles to help with maintenance and help to carry speed(?). Overall, though I applaud the effort.

as with any trail, it will be a section that will get attention and improvements as needed. There are plans to add other types of flow trails, branch off of this one (theres an old line that wasnt used that has awesome potential), and add tons more gravity based stuff on that side of the ranch. Big props to Shane (canyoncycles on here) and Bruce Swan for building their arses off on this line to help get it done so quickly. It will only get better as people ride it in and it gets a couple of nice soaks.

the heat and dryness will be something to think about when the time comes as will touching up any drainage issues we didnt catch after the insane 5inch downpour towards the end of the build.

youre right that theres nothing like that line around. The big props go to Vol and rprtexas.com for providing a place for this and all types of riding. A place that luckily has the elevation change and natural materials to provide for lots of smiles.

also- at some point they (rpr) are going to build an over/under bridge where it crosses the race loop.

I rode the track at the race in March, and I was thinking of driving down and hitting the Flow Track/Super D one weekend in May (5th, 12th). How does this work? Just show up and ride?

those are regular parts of the trail system now yes. theyre open and ready for riding.

Will try. Asked Vol if they had watered it... They hadn't.. its just badass dirt. Some of the steeper berms are getting better with every tire on them.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. If this thing isn't maintained/dialed on a regular basis, it too will be a lost cause.

Did you see me say that it rode like it had been? Watering a mile long line like that isn't going to happen... It rides great and parts will get altered if need be. The point was that the dirt holds up without water...

Easy there, Weaver Wabble. This wasn't attacking you, just stating the obvious point that any trail without some maintenance, especially one involving berms in central Texas, is going to deteriorate. I know how much work you put into that line taking pictures and posting them on mojo. We will forever be indebted to you.

I could care less about what people post/think about my involvement but felt the need to point out the ridiculousness of the 'doesnt surprise me' statement as Vol and rpr are offering central tx something we've been hoping for for a long time... Something that failed at twin parks and something that, terrain wise, isn't going to be found anywhere else. Other projects that failed out there were far from fault on the ranches part...

Missing the point... A ski resort has a different cash flow level wouldn't you say? I'm just assuming here but I'm guessing they get more riders and not at $10 a day...

I'm grateful we have that line even if its not lined with an automated water system... Hell, guys were hitting it opening weekend on 20"s and when I ride the line last week, the bottom half was in as good if not better shape...

Your argument here is completely pointless, because I didn't say that the line didn't ride well, either. However, I don't even think you would believe that a non-single track trail, especially involving berms, lips, etc. would not need some sort of maintenance. Yes, the native dirt does hold up well, but it, too, needs maintenance. Weaver, I'm glad you have found a place to be happy with RPR and stop shitting on work others have done....especially work you appear to have had nothing to do with. But to say that what has failed at RPR purely a result of the trail builders and not the land owners is ridiculous. If you had hundreds of hours donated and spent money on dirt on your personal property, be it excavated or delivered, and then did nothing to maintain the work that was done (whether you liked the work or not), the deterioration of that finished product would be YOUR fault as the land owner....either due to not maintaining it yourself or due to not recruiting people to maintain it for you. Again, the fact that the flow track hasn't already had maintenance done after a month or more of riding it doesn't surprise me. Do I like the flow track? Yes. Would I recommend people drive out there to ride it? Yes. But again, if it isn't maintained it will be lost and my opinion will change....and I know you could care less about that.
