    Question Recommended Cameron Park Route?

I'll be riding Cameron Park solo later today (have a work meeting in Waco, so probably will arrive at the park between 4 and 5pm) and I was wondering if anyone has a "recommended" route for traversing all the trails in the park? I have the nice trail map, but damn, there are a million intersections and I can (sadly) count on one hand how many times I've been there.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

    ..Al

Take I35 north, it's just a few miles past the second Hooter's on your left.

Still interested in the answer as last time I rode there I also spent more time navigating than I would I have liked.

I had a blast riding the trails yesterday, but I, too, still would like an answer as I stopped at nearly every intersection to consult the map on my phone. I would have ridden a fair bit more trail had I not stopped that often. Here are the trails I know I rode, not necessarily in this order!!

Entered at Root Canal up the road from the parking lot, California 56, Dead River, Sidewinder, Shyst, Pipeline, Picnic, Vermont, Kidney, Johnie, Slinky Loop, Torquer, Weber Run, Powder Monkey, Outback, Baseball, Rinky Dink, Cedars, Cliff's Cliff, Mix Master, Erect, Vortex, and others I am probably forgetting.

Some of these I rode more than once, such as twice up Erect after riding Vortex. Never got over to Hale Bopp and Highlander.

I have only been 6 or 7 times but I know what trails I want to hit when I am there. I really like Highlander/Hale Bopp, California 56, and all the stuff near Vortex. I also spend more time than I like looking at the signs and my map, but as long as I hit those trails and whatever I use to connect to them I am happy. I almost always end up doing Highlander and California 56 both directions because I like them so much. I was there in February and the deciduous trees were all bare, giving a bit more view on some of the trails. There was a huge number of Robins in the trees, almost deafening at times.

Your timing is excellent, as I'm going back up to Waco on Thursday for another meeting. I'm a bit confused by your map, though--at the area marked "Start", which trail do you actually begin with? It looks like you follow the dark blue and end with the dark green.

    Thanks!

You can skip the first little section(dark blue) and just ride back up the road until the crosswalk and turn right. That will take you up to the powerline tower.

Mouth of the Bosque road is at mile marker 1.2 when you enter the park.

First crosswalk -- as soon as you leave the parking lot -- is where the blue line starts. If you take that trail and stay right at every intersection, you will parallel the road and dip back thru the creek(drainage) and come out at the second crosswalk.

Ahhh, the few times I've been to Cameron Park so far I've always parked in the eastern part of the park near Herring Avenue. I'll park where "Start" is labeled next time and let you know how I fare. Thanks again for sharing the map and your insight--I look forward to riding the entire loop as described on the map.

You can always park at the redwood shelter and just ride the river trail to the Mouth of the Bosque. It is about a mile.

I prefer the Bosque area because it is right in the middle in case of any mechanicals.
